What’s the worst possible wrestling news to start the week?

What’s Zo’s strength as a coach? Seems great with rapport, logistics of traveling, getting guys ready to compete out and about… just gleaned from various social media stuff over the years. Would love to know more about his coaching/teaching style
He’s genuine and he’s calculating. Be around him for 10 minutes and you strive to accomplish what was discussed.

He is a horse whisperer.

Sounds like he and Taylor didn’t get along. They appear to have very opposite personalities. He clearly had major issues with someone on staff. Looking forward to getting someone on the staff that the entire staff meshes better with. It might have been a situation where he was going to be asked to move on and did it himself in advance.

I listened to the podcast and he kept referring to the staff and I thought he meant the Athletic Department staff but the longer I listened it did sound like the Wrestling staff instead. I thought he and DT were tight? TG says he doesn’t think there are any hard feelings but I can’t help but think “staff” is DT. I’m kinda surprised he’s gone out and gotten public with it.

I thought he just wasn’t done competing but that doesn’t necessarily sound like the case. He said Spratley was the only reason he wanted to stay at OSU. It sounds like he definitely wasn’t happy being on the staff.

I don’t know TG personally obviously, hate to lose him. We’re not privy with the day to day of what was going on but it’s disappointing it didn’t work out.

In my opinion he just didn’t fit and was in fear of getting pushed out. My guess is he wanted to do things his way.

He's always been an odd one to be around. I was interested when he first arrived but the more you are around him he's just odd. Never didn't like him but he has only one speed and it's straight ahead his way or you are an idiot. He's not made for what comes with being a coach, now teaching the sport I think he's good, but all the trappings of being a coach not so much. Him leaving doesn't hurt

How did us osu fans not figure it out when he tried to fight 50 year old John Smith lol

He brought some valuable assets to the coaching staff and I think the wrestlers liked him. He's good on tactics as well as motivation and those are great things to have and will be missed. Sounds like it just wasn't a personality fit and that's ok. I thank him for a great year and wish him well in the future.

Wow that is a wild accusation. The guy has 1,400 followers. Have no clue who it is or if there is any accuracy to the accusation, but If so that he should be banished from the wrestling community.
Let's not give in to conspiracy theories lol. Gilman came in, worked hard, helped our guys, and finished out the season despite not feeling like it was a good fit.

. I would also give it a 5% chance of being true.

To an extent it has to be David. Pretty dumb of the guy to do the interview in my opinion. Shows a real lack of maturity.
Could have been a potential shot at DT with the comment about not being able to move his family down here and have the support structure.

Oh, well. Water under the bridge. Sad to seem him go, won’t be easy to replace but they’ll get a good one.

He’s just 30. A lot of folks still haven’t matured at that point and need to learn life lessons. Give him a little more slack for that sake. A lot of what he said was nonsensical.

It doesn’t have anything to do with cutting him slack or not - it has everything to do with trying to understand what he is saying and what his perspective is.

Like a lot of folks, I loved to hate him at Cobra Kai. He since won me over, we saw him down in Dallas when he wrestled for Team USA, and he seemed like a genuinely good dude. Was thrilled when he came to OSU and sad to see him go. He’ll be fine and OSU will be fine.

Different takes. I just thought him doing that interview and his conduct during was classless and immature. If I am in charge of a program with any stature I wouldn’t touch him with a ten thousand foot pole.

I'm not sure that is 100% true.
I sensed issues with DT in the interview. All, but called him a coward. He had to “corner” him….again super weak stuff to bit** like this in public while being super vague. Glad he’s gone. Don’t care if he is a decent individual trainer. Having a feeling he would have trouble fitting on any staff.

It is always tempting to trash people on your way out of a job, whether that be in an exit interview or some other forum. You feel like you do not have much to lose. But mature adults realize that doing that is a chicken$%!* move. Much better to bury those negative thoughts, smile, and exit gracefully.

In his interview following the introductory press conference, I recall him saying “David’s a show pony, I’m more of a workhorse”. Easy to read way too much into something after the fact, but kinda makes me wonder. Either way, I get annoyed with the vague jabs without elaborating. It’s just lighting a fire and walking away.

Interested to see how he does at PSU. Cael and all them seemed to have a way of getting him to “chill out” a bit. But if he ends up exiting after a year or two, perhaps it’s not an “everyone else” problem.

That show pony turned two guys into national champs……..I’ll take that guy any day of the week.

Like him, love him, hate him….Gilman is going to tell you what he thinks. He has never been one to shy away from that. Maybe slightly immature and an area where he can grow and learn not to burn every bridge on the way out the door, but that interview was pretty authentic from what I’ve seen of him. He just does not care if you like his opinion but if you ask him for it, he will give it to you. Appreciate his time here and wish him luck. We will get someone good to replace him and hopefully it will be a better long term fit for the staff.
