Well, they do. Americans are by far the biggest consumers. That doesn’t mean we can’t be hurt though.... that they need us more than we need them. We’re about to find out:

Indeed we can be hurt. Some Americans are already feeling the pain. On his website Mark Perry has been posting examples of what he calls “backfire economics.”Well, they do. Americans are by far the biggest consumers. That doesn’t mean we can’t be hurt though.

There are also likely many Americans that are seeing benefits. Need to weigh both sides.Indeed we can be hurt. Some Americans are already feeling the pain. On his website Mark Perry has been posting examples of what he calls “backfire economics.”

Possibly. I have not seen any reports of anyone gaining from the situation. I posted a link a couple of days ago reporting that Whirlpool, which believed it stood to gain from the washing machine tariffs, has seen its value drop 15% since the tariffs took effect. And washing machine prices have risen 17% (I believe that is the number), which has affected the consumer significantly. There are also likely many Americans that are seeing benefits. Was I dreaming when I saw news articles about people going back to work in steel mills that were cranking back up?Possibly. I have not seen any reports of anyone gaining from the situation. No, I saw those reports right after he announced the tariffs. I also saw reports that the numbers were not as high as had been hoped. As has been pointed out multiple times those tariffs were intended to “save” up to 100,000 steel mill jobs while they put in danger up to 600,000 other jobs. A bad trade off.Was I dreaming when I saw news articles about people going back to work in steel mills that were cranking back up?
I’m not in favor of tariffs. I do see what trump is doing with them and agree on the end goal. Hopefully it works. Doing nothing like the past several presidents surely wasn’t working.
Of course it’s concerning. I didn’t like Obama’s use of executive power and don’t like Trump’s. Again, I believe we should have totally free trade but I also see what Trump is pushing for here. We have a tremendous amount of unfair trade barriers and have just accepted it over the years. No, I saw those reports right after he announced the tariffs. You say other presidents did nothing and it wasn’t working. Curious comment. What exactly wasn’t working?
Does it not concern you in the least that we have handed our president (regardless of who it is) authority to lord over us with the power to tell us with whom we may deal? We bow and genuflect and allow one man unlimited power over 330,000,000 million of us? Is that a society of free people?

I don’t believe Trump wants tariffs. I believe he is using tariffs to try to get other countries to remove theirs against us. I’ve been involved in shipping shit over the China for the past 5 years and comparing costs in-house vs outsource. We can be competitive but there are a number of built in disadvantages working against us. I’m ok with this experiment for now.
