Wait....what?

schumer introduced the bill in the 1990's....he was just on the bus when they proposed to end it and the house ignoring it. Trying to insure diversity is not the intention of immigration. It's shumers bill, no doubt. Just wanted to tell the whole story...or more of it. Now it's not so interesting...or maybe it is!

The conservatives in the House saw nothing but "amnesty" for existing illegal immigrants and the provision for agricultural visas for "low skill immigrants" and didn't bother with the rest of the details before saying no to it. Nevermind that the bill also addressed border security and ended the visa lottery in favor of a merit based system.

I thought it was a great start to immigration reform myself. But here it is in the year 2017 and the shitbirds in Congress still can't get shit done.

Have you ever read the federal law in question on this topic? It’s one of the more straightforward laws I’ve ever read:
(f)Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President

Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.

Not sure how it’s such a time waster. That law was passed in the 1950s. When a Democrat president used his authority per that statute, all is well. But when Trump uses it, OH MY GOD WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE !!!!!

There is another specific statute that restricts that authority somewhat.

We discussed this during the first ban. I'm waiting to pick up my daughter from work so I can't cite it right now.

Plus...I don't care enough to look it up again.

I'm actually surprised everyone hasn't put NZ on ignore. I'm not a fan of ignore simply because I like to read opposing views. Even if I respond with the usual sarcastic bullshit, I still like the provocation of thought that opposing views bring. But NZ isn't thought provoking.

He's the proverbial Muppet. He follows a script. He regurgitates ridiculous shit. I took him off ignore for half a day and I saw that his current posts were just repeats of the same shit I put him on ignore for. There's nothing to his posts but the same shit, different day.

You all can keep responding to his spam, but ignoring him en masse will reduce him to zero audience regardless of his posts. It only takes one to feed him. For me, it was learning that one of our message board community was Jewish and I pulled the ignore trigger. I get the whole "but somebody should oppose him" argument, but I can assure you that he feeds from dissent, and it only takes one to fill his tank. If everyone here ignored him, he'd go away, or at least you'd not have to read his bullshit when he posted it and waste your time responding.

I am deeply suspicious of whomever is in power.

Anti-authoritarian by nature.

Maybe even a spot of oppositional defiant disorder left over from adolescence.

Mostly I just want to be left alone and not told what to do or subjected to efforts trying to make be do something I don't want to.

Which makes it weird that I work for "The Man"....18 years now.

Used to "Fight The Power" as a criminal defense lawyer.

The I fell in love with a cop, and things got weird.

If I was ever gonna have a shot at having kids...or even getting to practice (if you know what I mean)...I had to (as she calls it) come over from "The Dark Side".

He has nobody competent enough to draft a bill on health care much less negotiate and pass one. No tax cut - doesn't have the ability to get it through. No wall - again, he can't. He can't get anything done, he's too lazy and distracted with self promotion and pleasing his white trash base to actually affect substantive change. All this with a republican congress.

I haven't said both, but policies are one thing and actually accomplishing anything are another. Aren't you the one that doesn't want to educate other people's kids because you shouldn't have to spend the money?

I don't even give a shit right now. I'm afraid to watch local news because I can't relive bedlam. I don't wanna watch national news because it'll be abb (all about Biff). Maybe I'll get into those tv shows where people bring their old shit in and a guy tells them what it's worth.

I may just start a pissfight with medic or harry to make myself feel better. @Medic007 the heat has broke, do you stop making payments on the window unit now?

I agree that policies and accomplishing things are another. I'm just confused how a policy that doesn't get enacted damages anything.

I don't recall saying anything about not paying for other people's kids' educations.

Bedlam sucked. Take solace in the fact that both teams looked really bad.
