This is likely going to drag on for a while, but a judge in Tennessee has granted Vandy QB Diego Pavia an injunction that will allow him to play in 2025 (or until his case is resolved).
He previous played two full seasons of JUCO football at New Mexico Military Institute in 2020 & 2021, followed by two full seasons New Mexico in 2022 & 2023, before transferring to Vanderbilt in 2024 for a 5th full year since the 2020 COVID year didn’t count.
But he apparently decided that wasn’t enough & that he’d like to stay in college and maximize his NIL money, so he sued the NCAA claiming that counting junior college years against NCAA eligibility is a violation of antitrust.
The case is unresolved, but since judge granted him the injunction, it’s likely he’ll get to play a 6th full season in 2025.
But if the eventual ruling in the case goes his way, get ready to see kids regularly play 6+ years of “college” football and keep pushing to see how long they can drag it on maximizing their NIL money before someone stops them.
