Vacation Time question

I'm building an employee manual and am looking for input on vacation time and PTO. I know this has been discussed here before. Chime in with your companies vacation plan.
 
In today’s world I believe New employees should be given 2 weeks vacation/PTO from day 1 and not wait a year. This hurts your recruiting.

With these new snowflakes you have to be creative with your maternity leave as well.

Not bragging . . . well, yes I am. 24 vacation days per year, 18 sick days, 5 personal days, and 4 days extenuating circumstances. Vacation leave is capped at 380 hours before you begin to lose it. Sick is capped at 400 hours.

So, is it more common currently for vacation time to be accrued hourly or to just give a flat number of days?

When you start you get 3 weeks, after 5 years you get 4 weeks, 10 years 5 weeks, 25 years 6 weeks. We can carry over 1 week of PTO to the next year. We also get 3 floating holidays that can NOT be carried over.

This is my 10th year so I get my extra week this year!
 
In the US, Google after 3 or 4 years gives 5 weeks of PTO a year, max of 240 hours rollover to the following year. About a dozen holidays. Other time off for family leave, jury duty, bereavement, etc.

AWS (Amazon) is 2 or 3 weeks PTO plus 6 days of personal leave.
 
New employees get
3 Weeks Vaca
2 Weeks PBA
80 hours of holidays throughout the year

100% pay for 4 weeks parental leave for birth, adoption, or foster care placement

No rollover though.
 
We just unlimited vacation beginning in 2018. Sounds great until you consider that it's really just a way for the company not to owe employees any vacation if/when they get let go. Most companies that have gone this route have seen employees take fewer days per year than before the policy.

Some of the other policies posted above, it makes me wonder if your companies even want you to work at all.
 
We have unlimited vacation (i.e., no accrual) for the professionals. Admin staff, etc. have 2 weeks initially that grows to 3 after a few years. Their vacation time accrues during the year, but does not carry over to the next year..

Unlimited vacay is a scam, in my opinion.
 
As I'm sure most rat racers have observed, vacation seems to have diminishing returns, i.e. you can only be gone so much before the crappiness of catching up exceeds the enjoyment you got from being gone. I've reached 26 days a year, not counting the typical holidays. I was supposed to submit a leave calendar today, and struggled for a few minutes to plan all the days. Still, I'd rather have them than not.
 
It just means that vacation doesn't accrue. You're also not going to be to take off a lot and expect to keep your job.
I was meaning it’s a scam in the sense that it’s implied that it’s a bigger benefit than a policy with limited PTO.

9 yrs at my current company, I get 200 hrs of PTO, and I am allowed to rollover my max allowance, which I have accrued. If we choose the alternate work schedule, we get every other Friday off. If a company holiday falls on your Friday off, you get the day before off. That's an extra 26 days of vacation a year..
 
Would highly recommend allowing rollover of vacation time. Even if it’s capped at a few days to rollover, it’s better to have some wiggle room.
 
I will hit 10 years at my current job this year and will go to 20 days of vacation, and will move to 25 after another 6, I believe. While it may not sound like an enormous amount, my schedule has me working 6 days on 3 off, 6 on 3 off, 6 on 6 off, so I get 6 consecutive days off every month, so it's hard to complain. On top of that, my job is shift work, so there's nothing waiting for me when I get back.

I would like something like this, even at the expense of a few traditional vacation days. Unfortunately, my software and engineering oriented organization is odd man out in a larger production oriented organization, and upper management signed a blanket policy nixing anything not a traditional 9 to 5-er.
 
15 years for me. I get 25 days, 7 sick, 9 holidays + 2 floating.

That said, I’ve not submitted vacation requests in several years. I honestly have no clue how many days I take. I also generally work on almost every vacation day (at least email).
