Is it worth the $85? I only fly, on average, twice a year. Thinking about giving it a try.
Has anybody gone through the steps to get a global entry precheck? Is there even a location in Oklahoma to go through the interview process?

no global entry interview place here .. you would need to go to Dallas or Denver, at least that is where I know folks have went for the interview. I am TSA precheck and it';s worth it (at times)

What @mseabolt said. To me, if you travel out of the country even once a year, global entry is well worth the extra $15. You do have to appear in person for an interview though and many cities and even states don’t have sites. I ended up doing my interview in El Paso, when I was there on business. Dfw actually has a site and,if you can plan a layover there, it’s pretty easy.

Tsa pre can be done in Oklahoma. Several sites.

The last few times I've gone through Tulsa airport with TSA precheck it took less than a minute from start to finish. My longest wait was in Houston once for 7 minutes. I took something like 30 flights last year. It is a godsend.

I went through the process about a month ago. Interview was pretty painless. Scanned my fingerprints, took a photo, and that was that. In my mind it'll be worth it after all the time I've spent in general check-in the past 3-4 months.

It’s worth every penny. I fly 2-3 times a month. Fly internationally couple times a year.

So worth it. Hell I just paid $1500 for Platinum status on American. Anything you can do to make travel easier is worth it, IMO.

I travel overseas 5-6 times a year and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for air travel.

Had my wife get it too, just for the occasional vacation.

Highly recommend global entry.

Interviews can be tough to schedule though. I recommend you try to do it in ABQ (that's where I had my wife go summer 2017). They usually have openings and it should be a reasonable SWA flight from OKC.

Damn planes. I stay low to the ground.

Ok, just kidding. I got over my flying fears a few years ago, but I still get a little nervous. Have to take a “sedative” every time...I’m a control freak, can’t help it...

Damned airplane disaster documentaries don’t help my issues one bit....

Definitely recommend TSA precheck. At $17 a year it the best bargain of flying. Absolutely zero hassel to sign up online and interview at DFW took less then 10 minutes with appointment. Time saving varies by day of time and flight but there always some. Lines are shorter and takes less time to go through. Just not having to take stuff out of bag and shoes off is well worth it.

Yes. Do the global entry, as it includes pre check. If you fly international even once it’ll be worth it. A couple of times a year is worth the precheck perk from global entry.

Get it, it is well worth it. Wife and I typically fly about 4+ times a year, so not much right now. But, we have been to some crazy busy airports and it was well worth it.

OP, if you only fly a few times a year you are wasting your money. If you are
Flying out of Tulsa or OKC you are seriously wasting your money. The only place for flying a few times a year would be LGA or MCO.

Beg to differ ... 25 bucks a year is worth not having to pull out your electronics and take your shoes off alone.

And you're still too cheap to spend $20 a year for convenience?
I am. If you are flying out of a small airport and only flying a few times a year then I feel it is a waste of money for 5 mins. Also, if
You are flying with family a few times a year an even bigger waste of money. I am a seasoned pro at flying.

I too am a seasoned pro and I believe it is a smart investment, even out of okc.

OKC is a small airport. Flying 2 times a year is a waste of money.
I see your point for sure. I guess it is kind of a waste of money no more than I fly. I will probably go ahead and get the domestic precheck, but not the global entry. I'm not going out of state just for that. When you think about it it's less than $1.50 a month. I mean that's one bottle of pop. I think everybody on this board can afford that.

To each his own. I fly four or five times a year mostly out of Love field and just escaping the irritability of having to wait in line, unpack my laptop and take my shoes off is well worth $20 a year to me but then I'm a grump old man.

Well I am a million miler on Delta and American but whatever.

I still am curious about what this was supposed to mean to me. Other than chest puffing - that doesn’t impact the argument of tsa pre or global entry.

I’m also really curious how a guy in academia can be a million miler on two different airlines. I’ve flown almost weekly for the past 25 years and I wouldn’t be a true million miler on two airlines. If you flew a thousand miles every week it would take you almost 20 years to be a million miler on even one airline.

I have a sneaking suspicion you’ve embellished here.

When you fly internationally you get all kind of bonus miles and then there is the credit card attachment. Yeah, have haven’t flown over a million on either but I have gamed the system to get there.

I’m at 747,250 on American, nearly all actual miles. I missed out on the credit card deal.

Worth every cent. Don't even think twice about it.

I fly out of Love Field 3-4x a month and fly past hundreds and hundreds of people Monday morning going through the security lines like cattle in Dodge City.

1,137,865 on American. I used to fly southwest a ton or that number would be higher. When the wright amendment got repealed it killed a bunch of direct or close to direct routes and I switched to American exclusively. Early in my career a flew a ton of northwest. I still say it’s been my favorite airline experience. Especially their partnership with continental ... I could fly everywhere and avoid some of the truly horrible airports. I still miss connecting through Memphis so much.

The great smell of BBQ in the air. No other airport has it.

I used to go through this airport as a kid when heading to Maine to spend the summer at my grandparents. When I was really young I got so lost in that airport I had to find a desk and have them page my mother. We almost missed the flight and man did I ever get in trouble. I went through there like 8 years or so ago and laughed at how easy that airport was and how even as a grade schooler I should have found my way back to the gate my mom was at. I think at the time it was really just a big Y for the most part.

With Northwest I will never forget those small airplanes from Boston to Banger that had one seat on each side. Those flights had some of the worst turbulence I have ever experienced.
