Trump violated the First Amendment

Blocking his critics isn't letting shit slide. It makes him look like they easily get under his skin. I'd prefer he let them twit away and then ridicule the hell out of them Trump-style. He'd kill them by simply replying #winning to every tweet directed at him.

It was probably a team decision to not give them a platform.

I can't get behind that.

Free speech and all.

Tweeting presidential policy, economy, war/peace, etc. makes it public record as it is clearly presidential communication archived.

If there were never anything “official” about a social media account, people wouldn’t lose their jobs for posting controversial things online...they do, all the time.

What has trump posted that is official executive branch action?

People losing their jobs is not part of the 1st amendment. You must understand that going forward. I insist you realize it.

Definitions matter. Define 'official government business'.

So the communication medium now is part of the official government business and is required to be bidirectional? That's what this ruling seems to be saying.

I would also contend that twitter isn't official records of the government. Why? Because if someone were to submit a FOIA request, where would it go? It wouldn't go to a government agency. So it isn't government business.

And ramifications for stupid statements and getting fired has no bearing on this situation. Because if it is, then ABC is an official government agency if you give an interview to 60 minutes and you say something that gets you fired. Same situation. Neither are 'official' government anything.

This ruling is just dumb.

I might be completely wrong, but I believe stuff like this is archived by the federal government so the request would be to it like on all other instances. I'm pretty sure the Obama Twitter stuff was stored.

When Obama’s presidency was up, his Twitter was archived and the @POTUS was wiped clean for Trump, but Humpty was never going to use it, so his personal account will likewise be archived as public record.

If the government chooses to capture and archive that, fine. Then that archive would be FOIA'd. But Twitter itself wouldn't be. And that's the real point.

You’re making rock-solid arguments thus far...oh wait lol
You constitutional scholar you.

I'd love to hear @CowboyJD on the subject.

So far your point is what exactly? That this court ruling is right, proper and true and should pass constitutional review? That a tweet from Trump is 'official government business' and that by blocking replies to certain accounts he is violating their constitutional right to free speech as protected by the first amendment?

SO now not only do I have to allow someone a street corner to give a speech, I have to also listen to them? Remember he isn't disabling their ability to Tweet. He's just blocking them from his view so he doesn't have to hear it.

You and someone on the street corner aren’t the President of The United States. Your tweets don’t influence public policy, the economy, war/peace, etc.

As a freedom of petition to redress grievance is guaranteed, no, Trump can’t simply silence me by blocking. He doesn’t have to read, he doesn’t have to like it...he just can’t stop said petition.

So a twitter reply is now an official document to the government as used to redress grievances?

Also it says that 'congress shall make no law'. Show me which law is being violated?

Your position is absurd.

And Trump isn't silencing anything by blocking you. He just isn't listening to your drivel. You are still free to go to the courthouse and file an actual petition or to tweet to your 34 followers instead of his millions.

Ahhh, very solid point, sir. I didn't think of it that way.

LOL. of course not. But you continue to be obtuse. It fits you well.

Come on you clowns you can’t possibly think that blocking assholes from one of 100 million twitter accounts is in any way a violation of the first amendment. There are 100’s of ways to speak on the internet. You aren’t being reasonable at all.

Look what trump is forcing you people to do. Normal center voters are begging you not to flush your party down the toilet so republicans are the only choice. Most of the people here would argue a strong sensible left is better for the country. The positions you defend don’t make sense and you 15 years ago would be disgusted.

You try so hard.

In the end, you have the exact same thoughts as toon though.

That's hilarious to me.

You've turned into toonlite.

All the hysteria with a little less stupid.

Not really.

Not really. Big tent. Seems like he acknowledges reality and facts, though.

Keep me posted.

You're not "lite" anything, you're just a garden variety dumbass.

All the anti-intellectual, gullible, pissed-off politics with a little more stupid.

I'll give you another shot at this.

Take your time.

You're not the quick type. You're better if you ruminate awhile.

I bet your steering wheel has heard some funny shit on the way home.

Real time, not so much.

Look what Trump is forcing you to do. A strong sensible POTUS doesn't cower in the face of criticism. He has you now defending his pussification of the Presidency.

BTW: agree on conclusion that the decision should not stand. Your inability to acknowledge the arguments however is embarrassing.

NK, Iran, ISIS might all candidly disagree with your pussification theory - which is pretty funny considering the flaccid foreign policy of Zero's admin to compare it to.

Trump takes on his critics all the time. He is meeting directly with the most hated dictator of our time. He has done business all over the world. I’m sure he is cowering here. Good assessment.

It’s simply housekeeping for his twitter feed. That’s it. He is scared of no one.

Housekeeping my ass. Unless you mean by housekeeping sustaining the fantasy land built around the fragile ego of Donnie boy.
