Agree. If Trump’s admin came out for legalization, Dems would be done for a couple of decades.

If I were Trump I'd hold any potential public announcement about a change in position on the MJ issue until very shortly before the 2020 election.
He's done a good job of keeping the Dems oFF balance and scrambling for the most part. Switching positions on this one too soon would give the DNC time to strategize a response - and they need to, since the lazy contrarian approach they have taken to date obviously makes no sense.
