Well yes and no. It's relevant when people starting boasting that the American people picked him and he has a mandate. It's harder to lead when you're never been supported by a majority of the American people.

Gender used to be referring to masculine, feminine and neuter in language and sex was used to distinguish between males and females. Another of those words (like gay = happy) commandeered to mean something else.
