During the broadcast of OSU's 4-3 victory Friday in Stillwater against Kansas State, color man/former Cowboy skipper Tom Holliday suggested that OSU batters were struck out looking (SOL) so many times that the Elias Sports Information Bureau might want to check their stats and see if the Pokes might have set an all-time record.

The answer: no.

In fact OSU batters struck out a total of 14 times during the game--including four times while swinging and 10 K's with bats on shoulder, far short of San Diego Padre reliever Jeremiah Estrada's record, who struck out 13 Marlins in 2024, all whom were struck out with no offer at the strike out pitch.

Maybe Pokes instead should borrow a page from Holliday mentor Gary Ward's playbook and try not swinging at two-strike pitches more often. Nobody valued walks as a means to get on base and score runs more than Ward, universally considered one of the premier batting instructors of all time.

Note: During Friday's game the Pokes scored 1 run in both the third and fifth innings and two in the eighth, accounting for all their runs. In each of those three innings at least one OSU batter struck out with no offer made at strike 3.

For the record (Pokes vs KS pitchers--14Ks, 4 runs):

INNING 1--SOL 2
INNING 2--SOL 2, SOS 1
INNING 3--SOS 1, SOL 1
INNING 4--SOS 1
INNING 5--SOL 1
INNING 6--SOL 3
INNING 7--SOL 1
INNING 8-- SOL 1
