Thoughts on Kavanaugh?

With our tech today he should be able to

In fact, there’s no reason for congress to almostvalways be in DC

Consolidated so the critters can be more easily fed by special interest

I think of it as the other way around.

If you let them squirrel away and hide and vote from someplace other than their legislative seat, the ability of the common person to Petition the government and seek redress for grievances is lessened even more than it already it....and the special interests with money still have the means to feed the squirrels wherever they may be.

Remote voting on legislative matters would increase special interest power and influence rather than decrease it, IMO.

RBG will be paraded around like a "Weekend at Bernie" corpse until the stench can no longer be covered up.

Does anyone believe an 85 year old, 90 pound woman has the mental or physical ability to be a Supreme Court Justice? She can't even stay awake for a State of the Union Adress.

My mother was her clone and had her mind, we still took the keys away at 84. She got confused all the time but could have a rational conversation. It's called old age and there is a reason people retire.

RBG needs to go.

I absolutely do believe she has the mental and physical ability to be a Supreme Court Justice. I’ve seen and heard nothing in her opinions or presence at oral arguments before the court (of which I listen to quite a bit) to indicate she doesn’t. She is still mentally sound...pretty obviously so in my book. As for physical...it’s not like Supreme Court Justice is a physically taxing job.

And I say this from a position of disagreeing with most of her votes as Justice and with her political leanings as well.

Maybe Trump just bores her, I dunno.

They're called clerks and they do 90% of the supreme courts work. No way that old lady has the stamina to be a judge.

Yes. I see no reason why RBG doesn't still have the ability to serve on the Court.

Oliver Wendall Holmes Jr. served on the Court till he was 90. Stevens was 90 too.

I think I know a little bit more about the actual nature of the physicality involved in being a Judge than you do.

EVERY Supreme Court Justice has clerks. In fact, each Associate Justice gets four of them. That’s one of the reasons being a Justice is not a physically taxing job.

Of course she does. As CowboyJD mentioned, listen to her at oral arguments. Read her opinions.

i think it’s apparent trump made the deal with kennedy

I'm not a big fan of conspiracy theories and I doubt Trump made any "deal" with Kennedy. Probably some back channel discussion/recommendation though.

Kavanaugh was always going to be on a Republican (especially establishment Republican) list to replace Kennedy.

interesting he was jfk/democrat nominee that wrote dissenting opinion on roevwade

“He wrote dissenting opinions in notable cases such as Miranda v. Arizona, Immigration and Naturalization Service v. Chadha, and Roe v. Wade.”

Yeah...Ole Whizzer didn’t exactly go as expected by the folks that appointed him.

Of course, back then...neither side actually appointed/approved primarily (maybe exclusively nowadays) on how they thought they would rule on hot button issues before the court.

That all kind of started with Bork.

Only in in judicial circles is an 85 or 90 year old considered fit to have an important decision making position. It's a total joke.

Lawyers perpetually keeping lawyers in a position to make money and f everyone else.

Went to traffic court in Wagner county said I wanted to plead guilty and pay my fine. Was told I couldn't make a plea because I didn't know all the ramifications would not accept a plea until I came back with an attorney. Everyone else was told the same. Total lawyer scam.

It depends on what is being claimed.

IMO, it is a conspiracy theory to claim that Kennedy only decided to retire when he entered into a backroom secret deal with Trump where Trump promised to only appoint Kavanaugh. This has been making the round on some websites for some time now as a way to attack Kennedy and Trump.

Now, to claim that Kennedy met with or talked with Trump about his planned retirement and/or that Kennedy recommended his former clerk Kavanaugh isn't a conspiracy theory. Yes, that is how the world works.

btw, why would any President make such a deal?

People are living longer and better than ever in our history. I’m a big fan on judging people by the quality of their character over the age of their skin, but that’s just me. I’m also a big fan of judging performance based upon the quality of output rather than making assumptions based upon age.

But you’re probably right...just a lawyer scam.

Your Wagoner traffic court judge probably violated the Comstitution by not allowing you to represent yourself. Incompetence knows no particular age or profession though.

serious question?

one vote lead in senate
november elections looming

why would a president not make that deal?

maybe the situation is too abstract

So you think it is wise for a President (who is a politician) to box himself in on a Supreme Court pick dictated to him by someone else? I always thought it was common knowledge that politicians like to keep their options open. Also, what would Kennedy do if Trump promised him and then nominated someone else? Go public about the secret deal?

And again, a case could be made that it can benefit Trump politically to make the Supreme Court pick an issue in November. Judicial nominations tend to fire up the right more so than the left. Of course, I don't discount that this one could fire up the left more and Trump is worried about that. It very well could have been part of Trump's reasoning when actually making the decision post-Kennedy retirement.

I just think it is highly unlikely that a secret agreement was reached before Kennedy agreed to retire.

When it's clear the Senate has the votes to confirm Kavanaugh those dem Senators in Red States up for reelection will be given the green light by Schumer/Soros to vote for him.

I had cash in my hand. Judge said come back with an attorney because I was apparently to stupid to just pay my fine and go on with my life for driving 10 miles over the speed limit. True story. Legal system is rigged to pay lawyers.

Ridiculous.

Are there instructions on the back of the ticket to pay by mail?

Yes, made the mistake of showing up for my court date. The judge obviously didn't like me being there. Along with every other person who showed up for their court date who were told not to come back without dirt bag lawyer.

That's how Wagner County works. Got a lawyer for a thousand bucks got my 200 dollar ticket dismissed.

Oh, I thought the case was still pending. That’s why I was asking. Sorry, dude.

I took a slumlord to JP court where I represented myself and prevailed. The slumlord appealed to County Court and I had to bring my lawyer in since it was my corporation suing and not me individually. I prevailed again but the judge denied legal fees because I didn't have my lawyer in JP court. Since then I always use a lawyer and have always had my legal fees paid. Fortunately my legal challenges have been few.

They definitely practice a different kind of law in Wagoner County, I’ll give you that.

Along with Delaware, LeFlore, Texas, and Cotton.
