That's a bet you would win. I remember Reagan, in an interview with Reason Magazine called libertarianism the "heart and soul of conservatism." I wrote a letter to the editor saying if that's true then Reagan is its ass-end. It didn't get published.

What do you think, SiL? Trump promised you his trade policies, including tariffs, were going to reduce the trade deficit. But damned if they didn't *increase* it! Is this one of his promises that he made but didn't make to you so you can continue to insist he has never broken any of his promises to you? I mean, hell, he's broken a million promises, but miraculously none of them were made with you. He's kept all his promises to you! Right?

You can do what ever it is that floats your little boat, the rest of us will wait a little longer to see if the tariffs helped in negotiating better trade deals. My timeline has always been about Sept 1st to see some trade deals to be finalized and even that date is extremely quick for trade deals to be renegotiated. I expect any trade deal with China to take a minimum of 12 months and it might take seeing how the midterms work out before China is willing to do anything. They know how to play the long game, they also know Democrats and the RINOS are more than willing to give China favorable terms for a little under the table money.
One year from today, June 4th, or one year from Liberation Day, April 2nd? Of what *explicitly* are you expecting these fabulous trade deal to consist? What results are you *explicitly* expecting at the end of your one year deadline? If the trade deficit remains unchanged or gets bigger upon reaching your one year timeline what will you advocate at that time? What will be your reaction if DJT tells you his tariff deals didn’t work like he promised because they were not onerous enough and he needs to renegotiate tougher deals?

Dang. You can't really be arguing about Trumps policies at this point, can you? I mean he's been in office all of 6 months. Employed tariffs on and off for maybe 4 months. I don't agree with all of his decisions and policies. But shouldn't a free thinking individual with any common sense at least wait a couple of years to see what happens? I mean the democrats with Obama and Biden so completely screwed up the economy via asinine policies it may take a generation to even get our financial head above water.
Have you forgotten how Trump assured us he would have near instant results from his policies? I hate to say it (because I can’t stand either Obama or Biden) but Trump has done nothing to correct the screwed up economy. In fact a very strong argument can be made that he’s made things worse. His farm policies, as discussed in the link, have *increased* the trade deficit. Completely counter to his assurance they would lower them. That doesn’t concern you? Didn’t most MAGAs vote for him believing his insistence the trade deficit has been devastating to us, proof that the rest of the world has shivved us, and that his policies were going to correct the imbalance?

Perhaps you are correct. As hard as I look I don't see your answers beyond a tepid "timeline" of 12 months with China, and September with the rest of the world. Nothing about what you explicitly think the deals would look like. Nothing about what you explicitly think the results will be. Nothing about what will be your reaction if your expectations fall flat. I will say Dear Leader better get on the stick. September is fast approaching. Sixty days ago he predicted he'd have 90 deals in 90 days and it's now sixty days in and think his track record is bupkis. We're all on pins and needles!

Okay. What are the trade terms you deem to be better? Please give a few specifics, not some bland talking points you’ve heard from your Dear Cult Leader? This is something you’ve clearly given hours of deep thought and study about. What terms will be required from trade deals to “reshore” national security products, and what are those products that have you concerned? Please quit dancing around and explain what you think will specifically be required to achieve the results you have said you expect. Trump’s initial complaint was the trade deficit is a huge problem that proves we are getting screwed by the whole world and he needs tariffs to even the score. You seem to want to ignore the centerpiece of his argument. I’m begging you to state your case in specifics, state exactly what you want and exactly how that will get the results you want.

Why are you so reluctant to say what you think your preferred trade deals will accomplish beyond utterly bland nonsense? You are pushing harder for Trump to make deals than any other member of this board. A few months ago it was all about how angry you were that other countries were cheating us and the trade deficit was proof that something needed to be done. Now it seems you want manufacturing jobs to come back. Especially "national security" manufacturing jobs, whatever those are. If you want those things so badly why don't you say how TACO Don is going to get them for you?
The world's reserve currency and first decimal/metric currency (1792) strength is not doing the US any favors at this moment. A bit weaker dollar would help us at this time.
