There are some errors in that criteria. For example, it is not the team's RPI, it is the individual wrestler's RPI that matters.I just looked up what is looked at for selecting the at large bids. Six spots were allocated, and is down to four, but performance at the conference tournament is factored in. The teams RPI is also factored in. He definitely has some decent wins, just not this year, but finished R16 last year at 157. Wonder if past year results weigh in on the decision at all? If he is healthy and is not too rusty, I think he can win this bracket. That would be the best way to get into Nationals, or he can just finish in the Top 4. haha
- Selection Criteria:
The NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee uses several factors to determine at-large qualifiers, including:
- Head-to-head competition: Results against wrestlers who have already qualified.
- Quality wins: Wins against highly ranked opponents.
- Results against common opponents: Head-to-head results against wrestlers who wrestled the same opponents.
- Winning percentage: Overall win percentage during the regular season.
- Ratings Percentage Index (RPI): A ranking system that measures a team's strength of schedule.
- Coaches' Ranking: Rankings compiled by coaches in the wrestling community.
- Conference tournament finish: Performance at the conference tournament, even if it didn't result in automatic qualification.
This doc contains the correct criteria starting on page 7
If he comes in fifth or lower he will not meet the criteria for at-large as he wont have enough matches to qualify for a win %, RPI, or coaches' rank.
