I watched a video years ago on how someone who professionally teaches self defense suggested how to protect themselves when a gunmen enters a class room and you are unarmed.
Of course, if you can lock the door, do so.
Have one person get in the far left hand corner of the class room, when looking in from the door, in this example the person would be running away from the gunmen.
When the gunmen enters the class room this person is to sprint as fast they can to the next wall, and sprint back the other way. This person is to draw the attention of the gunmen when they first walk in so they do not use their peripheral vision.
He suggests putting 2 people hiding by the door and these 2 people will have the door swing to them when the door opens. The remainder of the class is on the other side of the door on all fours as close to possible to the wall.
When the gunmen comes in, one of the persons on all fours gets in front of the gunmen and at this point they are at knee level of the gunmen. The other 2 come from behind and push the gunmen down over the person on all fours. The remainder of the class dog piles the fallen gunmen and subdues them. He suggests if possible using a desk to cover them and weight them down under the weight of the students.
He said this is not best case, but it is a strategy of self defense and you have to decide do I just do nothing and get shot, or try to have a plan.
He teaches this at schools, churches, work places.
He said unless you are trained military very few are going to be able to hit the person running at the back of the class room. In the demos they did, they took normal people holding a gun and showed them coming in the door (not knowing the self defense strategy) and it worked really well. They usually had the gunmen down before the person running at the back of the class room got to the opposite wall.
He said obviously you would need people fully committed to a plan or you can not do it.
Looked to me to be better then nothing besides hiding under a desk and praying.
