My daughter, who could not have kids due to a cancer diagnosis chose to adopt a child so I have been deeply involved in the adoption process with her.
The red tape and cost associated with adoption is significant. I understand the need to thoroughly vet the adopting parents so there should be some cost associated with that. I understand, but the cost to adopt a kid is out of control in the US. Around $40,000.
I don’t have the answer but if the cost was reduced to something manageable I think we could see a result that everybody could embrace. I hate government spending with a passion but if congress could find a way to subsidize adoption by eliminating a few ridiculous government programs I think we could all win.
