I’ve had a horrible cough for about a week. Drs are worthless. I’ve tried every over the counter option and nada. Normally about 4am I fall asleep from exhaustion.

Anyone have any family recipes? Oh I’ve done a hot toddy too.

Sliced fresh ginger with hot tea. Boil the ginger in the water then make tea with it.

prescription cough medicine...nothing else worked. It helped but didn't cure it. It finally just wore out I guess. And yes, this was the heavy duty cough medicine.

Took almost a month for me to finally kick that damned cough.

a bag of green tea, teaspoon of raw honey, pinch of turmeric, pinch of ginger, pinch of cinnamon, pinch of ground pepper, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice.

This is actually a really great suggestion. I would also include drinking 2 Tbs of apple cider vinegar to 8 ozs of water 3 times a day. That will break the junk up in your throat and return your body to a proper ph level

Sounds disgusting but at this point, I'll try almost anything. Thanks for the suggestions, sadly the codeine-laced cough syrups do nothing for me.

It's not bad. Enough honey & lemon will disguise the spices. Very good for overall health.

It will taste a lot better then you think. I juice a lot of turmeric and it taste better then you would think.

Now that I have, not sure I have the ingredients for the other tea.

You can mix and match. All the ingredients have their own benefit... taking one or two away won't take away the benefit of the others.

Thanks, had to look that up to see what you were talking about it. Thought it was a company icon like Aunt Jamima or Col. Sanders.

Assuming you've tried the OTC allergy meds? Your basic Claritin, Allegra type of stuff will dry your sinuses up completely, and the cough goes with it.

Sorry I usually just buy the Braggs brand but there are other brands with the "mother". That is the good stuff they distill out of vinegar now a days.

Yeah, been talking an Allegra every day, now they have added Singulair and a different cough medicine with codeine. Pretty sure I could sell the cough syrup to some hs kid.

Glad you posted something. I can't kick my cough either (codine meds and all) and trying to sleep is miserable.

I may try some of these concoctions.

Try it! Has worked wonders for me... been doing it 4-5 times a week since October.

Promethazine with codeine. I used to sell it as a drug rep. I have prescribed it for years. Current viral bronchitis that is going around causes cough with post bronchitic cough for several weeks afterward. Steroids have worked for the cough at times as well.

(Just kidding, I know viral colds are frustrating for all of us)

that's what I used and the longer I used it the better it worked...I mean after a couple of days it started working better. I had an option of steroids but passed on those. It was just that pak dosage but I have other uses for steroids and once you take them you have to wait a few months for them to work as well again.
