Would never own a different brand of weedeater but I'm in the market for a gas blower. Any of you have any experience with them and are they as good of a product as their weedeaters? I'm looking at a model around $150-$200, not commercial but a good one for home use. I don't need a backpack for less than 2 hours of use a month max.

Frankly I would say no. I have a Stihl weed eater and chainsaw and love them both. I bought the blower even though I had read that they lack power. I have found that it does lack power even to the point of not having as much as my electric weedeater brand blower had. I bought a different blower tip for it that helps but if I had to do it again I'd go a different way and as I said I love Stihl products. It starts every time and is reliable as hell just disappointed with the output. I have the BG56C.

I've had three blowers in my lifetime - weedeater then craftsman now stihl. They have all been great. The craftsman died on me earlier than I expected so I bought the stihl for reliability. The only thing worse than a blower not blowing hard enough is one that won't start. So, for this reason I bought the Stihl and I expect to use it forever hopefully.

One other thing though, I live on 3/4 of an acre and have a huge driveway with circle drive and 4-car garage. I wish I had purchased the back pack to save me some effort.

I bought the BG 86 stihl off of a guy on Craigslist for 150 this spring and it looked brand new. I have the 56 and it didn't blow hard enough.

I have a redmax that is a great blower but it's hard to start. My redmax edger starts 1 pull, the blower might start after 5 or not at all. And yes I had the carb changed out and it still sucks.

Stick with the 86.

I've had a Stihl gas blower for about 2 months now. I'm just using it for yard work (nothing heavy duty) and so far I love it. The flip side is this is my first blower of any kind so I don't really have much of a reference point. Starts easily and has more than enough power for what I use it for.

I have the same experience as Air_Thurman. Would definitely buy Stihl again. Just look at what the yard care companies are using.
