I was thinking of this over the weekend and it crossed my mind our team in years to come will be Oklahoma raised kids. say our lineup in 2 years is
125: Daton Fix (likely he will come here from what ive been hearing)
133: Kaid Brock
141: Kaden Gfellar or Boo Lewellen
149: Martinez last year then moran or one of the 41 pounders may go up gfellar in my mind
157: wyatt sheets
165: Jojo Smith
174: Jacobe Smith
184: yet to be known
197: keagan Moore
285: yet to be known

Guys that is a lot of Oklahoma kids on our future team and that will increase people attending the duals, make the atmosphere better, and we can brag that we will be winning with oklahoma raised kids. So excited to watch in years to come! Go Pokes

I agree it could be Derek White from Edmond after next year but it very well could be Preston Weigel from Kansas. The only other weight I would disagree on is 165 as Chandler Rogers is only a red shirt Sophomore-of course since the Rogers' now live in Stillwater I guess you could say this is another Oklahoma kid.

I am not making any argument about who would win at 165 between Joe and Chandler. Joe is not a big 157 pounder and I just do not think you would move him up. The battle may be between Rogers and Jacobe Smith and in the past this has been very close.

This years roster will probably have as many OK kids as any other in the near future. Will have at least 6, possibly 7.

125-NY
133-OK
141-OH
149-OH
157-OK
165-OK-I think it's fair to claim him. Graduated HS here
174-OK
184-OK
197-Depending on White's eligibility it could be OK, possibly KS
285-OK

We need another group of these to come through to keep up with PSU.
This^

Best way to stay on par with PSU is if OK can continue to put out solid groups of HS talent like they have recently. Get that and a few out of state recruits each year and OSU will be in good shape.

i think you will continue to see elite talent coming through oklahoma
there is a great deal of support at the club level and the owa and others are doing a fantastic job of transitioning top level youth kids into national level competitors.

I agree that due to the efforts of many outstanding youth clubs and coaches in Oklahoma that Oklahoma has some elite wrestlers and that this will continue in the future. The major problem facing OK State recruiting is that for every elite wrestler Oklahoma produces the much larger corps of elite wrestlers that Pennsylvania and Ohio produce every year.. We need to cherry pick the best of those wrestlers and continue the strong effort in Oklahoma with coaches like Hardell Moore, Derek Fix and many others.

your right about our great coaches with derek fix obviously producing his son daton and hardell moore producing Gfellar

Does John or any of the Smiths have any more kids that will keep him involved at the younger levels?

Pretty sure Coach Smith has 2 more boys. I'm guessing here, but I want to say Sam and Levi. I'm sure someone here can confirm. Not sure about others.

Don't know their names but yeas he has 2 other sons. Not gonna even mention all the other grandnephews and grandkids of the smiths who's ties to wrestling don't just come with the smith family

Hopefully it will be a repeat. I don't think it's any coincidence these 4-5 great years we had in Oklahoma juniors were in part due to John's being specially engaged/involved and opening up the facilities and working with the kids at a closer level than normal to help facilitate JoJo's growth.
