I do have to give him some credit for fleecing the public into thinking he is doing anything other than scoring talking points for a run at governor or other higher office. The RFF to pay 3.3 million for Trump bibles was pretty ballsy though!
Suprised more attention hasn’t been placed on the Innovation Foundation and the problems surrounding it as it relates to Shrum’s resignation. This is going to end up being a story
Walters was Stitt's Secretary of Ed (nice gig for an 8th year teacher) and Stitt dual hatted him to State Super Nintendo when Joy resigned to run against him. So, yes, Stitt put him in charge.

He doesn’t know the constitution or the law and so no superintendent pays much attention to him. He doesn’t even have an education administrative credential where law is required to be learned and competence in the law proven through testing and accreditation.
Can you name another Oklahoma State Superintendent that’s in the news every other day with some White Nationalist talking point and is provided a state paid security detail? In what world should a state school superintendent require a security detail? He doesn’t either but insists on it to be seen as SOMEBODY!
He’s a village idiot and consummate political hack that is the furthest thing from a supporter of public education who should be devoted to the success of schools his department serves and working for their success through his actions not a national embarrassment trying to buy Trump Bibles which of course is illegal.
By the way, bibles are already in every public school in Oklahoma and free for any interested student to check out and read.

Thanks Pancreek for the comment. I've thought this all along. While I don't know the exact details, it has been my feeling from reports that the main issue was not getting appropriated money approved by the Board before it was moved to the Innovation Foundation from the general operating fund. It could have been a mistake, or they may have been waiting for the next Board meeting, but in either case, it is an audit exception. It doesn't seem to rise to the level of a crime or enough to be pushed out.
My feeling is that the Board better do a great job of hiring a new president who has the required academic credentials and university level administrative expertise (especially land grant) to lead us in a very positive direction, and can win back donors and students/grads, because many thought Shrum was a great ambassador and leader of our university.

It appears she gave Stitt the rope! He used it.
She was advised that moving the functions from under the University umbrella might lead to problems. I have not confirmed it 100%, but I think she (against professional advice) harvested carry forward funds from the colleges to move to the Innovation Foundation. Another problematic decision, and the optics of that would be horrible. Especially if she used those funds for things like higher class of travel than State policies call for when using E&G funds.
I have heard those are exactly some ofthe issues. I have been told nothing illegal is suspected but ethics and optics have been severely strained.
I was also been told the Whistleblowers provided incontrovertible documentation of whatever it is that has happened. Thus the multiple resignations of all 3 individuals that have had control of the Foundation since it’s inception.

On a more hopeful note. I hear nothing but good and positive things about Dr. Hess. In my 30+ years in the OSU system administration I never had the privilege of speaking with him.

Not a huge Stitt fan but it’s funny he big dicked Walters. Just shows he has some moral lines in the sand. Said he wasn’t ok with using children as political pawns.
There is also some talk that Stitt is going to try and backdoor the school voucher system that rural schools have been opposed to, and has made sure the people he just put on the board will side with him. Basically trying to make it look like he's finally fixing something while he is really stacking the deck in his favor.

And sycophantic, rudderless governors like Stitt and Abbott just take the millions in campaign contributions and do their bidding. It’s absolutely disgusting and yet millions of really stupid Oklahomans and Texans keep electing worthless clowns like these. We truly live in the dumbest of times….

Public education, its issues (as well as the the good it does) is a complex issue. There are a myriad of things that affect outcomes. I don’t think the space we have here is adequate to really get the roots of the issues.
