Should we be punished if we don’t pay our taxes?

First off, the statute of limitations on tax evasion is 6 years (3 for some tax evasion crimes). So, even if he and his daddy were evading taxes, it is unlikely that Donnie will face criminal charges. However, the government can file a civil suit to get reimbursed if they determine that money is owed.

I think this story clearly blows out of the water Trump's narrative that he got a small loan from his dad and turned it into a billion dollar empire. It also shows why he constantly refuses to release his tax returns.
I agree nothing is likely to happen to trump. And if he does have to pay penalties then it will be years from now. This is all just another distraction.

Aggressive tax strategies are just that. IMO most public companies have them. That’s one reason why they have FIN 46 reserves. You take a position and determine the likely of whether or not your position will hold up under audit. Sometimes you reserve the entire benefit of the position.

Anyone who was an adult, or at least college age in the mid 1980’s knows the NY media has been “studying” Trump and his finances (and with good reason) for 30+ years.
