Shaming kids effort getting desperate

With stalled growth and even some shrinkage, what we most likely see is more penetration by activists. For the left, that means the worst of the worst have higher visibility.

Which may serve to reinforce the stretching of societal norms for the left. If everybody is saying the kid is scum, and act out emotionally because, you know, Punch a Nazi, then your more casual observer may be more inclined to think that's okay. Especially younger folks, not established and easily swayable.

And you don’t think similar phenomena happen on the opposite side? You don’t think younger folks, in conservative environments are easily swayable?

Or maybe MAGA needs to understand they don't get a free pass. They're proud of being "deplorable." So what's the objection? Had his deplorable gear on front and center. He generated attention. The kid was there to generate attention. I'm sorry the consequences are so awful, but "mission accomplished" as you republicans say.

Your problem here is sunlight. The camera didn't lie. MAGA needs to quit acting like dicks if they don't want to be photographed acting like dicks.

My estimation is that they simply lose influence due to people disassociating themselves.

There's also the self-governance of people like you, @Ponca Dan , National Review, etc. All influencing different elements of the center or right.

Disassociation is not the same thing as self-governing or calling out conduct. That’s basically a “No true Scotsman” response to the types of conduct we are talking about.

Nor is it self governance when I and others that do not consider ourselves within the “right” call out conduct of both the left and right.

NZ Pokes behavior here and the response to the same here from the “right” is a case study in what I am talking about.

We are probably just going to fundamentally disagree on this particular subject....and that’s certainly fine and dandy with me (and I suspect you, as well).

Surely they are. But into performing what interaction with society?

@Syskatine would answer: to disrespect elders banging on drums or to hoot at girls. And apparently...destroy the fukers.

My response?
No amount of Gillette, Nike, etc social awareness is going to appreaciably move the needle against human nature. (Odd that the party of science is selective about the science).

And that we should always strive to be better versions of ourselves. In my mind, that's an "understood" position.

Believe it or not, I'm okay with a degree of shame being felt. It's chief quality should be i) commensurate with the egregiousness of behaviour. Another is that it be administered by a meaningful person in that person's life.

Sys, Toon, Pilt lynch mobs are nothing more than 21st generation versions of Salem with trials, lynchings, indiscriminate French revolution beheadings, etc ....

Online lynch mobs aren't seeking to edify. Really think about that.

Pilt, sys, toon: "wow that kid sure was being a dick"

Brad: "this is a lynch mob to me"

Disassociation has a self governing net effect, which is what I'm concerned with....groups of people and what governs them. Disassociation leads to lack of influence.

I didn't tag you as 'right,' which is why I included the word 'center,' which has influence on the right and left.

Yes indeed, I'm fine with a lack of 100% agreement on fine details. Monolithic thought would lead to the end of our species. ha

I disagree with the contention that disassociation has a self governing affect. It merely allows a group to benefit from the acts of those individuals while disclaiming any responsibility for them.

Finally, I’ll be frank about my attempts to influence from the center....I haven’t seen much success in the right or the left. I’m starting to believe that the country is hopelessly divided with no room for civil engagement and cooperation. It concerns me.

Saying a guy's a dick = being a nazi.

Saying a deplorable is deplorable = indiscriminate beheadings.

Toon, Sys and Pilt all agree on everything. They're responsible for each other's opinion across the board.

Pilt, I'm sorry, but I think the black jews, the indian beating a drum, the maga guys, all of them are a little crazy to varying degrees. If you disagree that the old indian is likely crazy, wondering around chanting and beating a drum, we're going to have to decide which of us goes over to Brad's treehouse. I think it should be you, as I was here first. Someone gets to keep the secret handshake, as well.

Toon, I think we disagree on the degree of historic culpability college admission standards have for perpetuating poverty in minorities. I hope not - if so, someone is going to have to leave the treehouse.

I sure appreciate Brad's clarity on this.

Cameras don’t lie, correct. But apparently confirmation bias causes blindness.

Couldn't agree more.

That first paragraph is a good point, and one really needing it's own thread to fully unpack.

The second paragraph is unfortunate.

It's been a good run, but I find the Indian to a cool dude in the tradition of Lebowski and not even a little bit crazy. Where do I turn in my club membership?

The second paragraph is unfortunate.

1st paragraph:

Honestly, it approaches largely “touchy feely” emotional/psychological territory that a more logical, concrete “what’s the issue, and what’s the solution?” Kinda guy like myself rarelyventures into.

2nd paragraph:

Yeah. It is.

He’s all about innuendo that is open for interpretation. You are supposed to either know what he meant, or pretend that you do. If you want, you can hit him up with a like. That way the rest of us will think you are the Batman to his Riddler.

My daughter is a sophomore at UCO. She came home last semester with the following story.

She wears beanies all the time. Like every day, all day long. It's just her thing. She has a ton of them.
She is sitting in class with a red beanie she got while in France as a foreign exchange student. It has white lettering on it that says, "Do you speak French?" Some girl in her class - in the middle of class - comes over to her and confronts her about wearing the hat and what does it say. My Daughter told her and showed her what it said. The girl's reply was okay. If it were a MAGA hat I was going to make you take it off. My daughter just looked at her like she had 3 heads.

Now... I'd almost loved to have been there IF my daughter was actually wearing a MAGA beanie and the girl actually attempted to make her remove it. My daughter is a lot like me and doesn't react well to being ordered around like that by someone with no authority over them. That girl has no right to insist that someone comply with her own personal dress code.

Just curious. What exactly are you doing to curb behavior of certain factions on the right side of the aisle? For example, individuals who spread false conspiracy theories (i.e. Pizzagate, Seth Rich, etc). Or, do you condone such behavior?
First you're gonna have to tell me what either of those things is, then I'll tell you if it's within my superpowers to control their thoughts and actions.

You have answered my question with the second half of your sentence. I’m sure you know that I am unable to control thoughts and actions of others as well.

You might google the two things I mentioned. They are simply examples of evidence that both sides do some really shitty things to advance their narrative. Not just the left.

Assuming you meant aversion anyway...wouldn’t you be projecting the same snowflaky/hurt feelers tendencies you claim to despise?

Not sure that was the word you meant to use. Maybe you were just being nebulous again.

av·a·rice
/ˈavərəs/
noun
  1. extreme greed for wealth or material gain.

Thanks, but I didn't need to come to this politics board to learn that. I'm not really a black and white kinda guy, which is a difficult point of view for someone who enjoys interneting.

That gets a like.

I don't give a sh*t if you like that or not!!

By the way, have we discovered what the meaning of 'is' is, yet?

"One of the most delightful benefits of TDS is that besides its huge initial wallop, it is a powerful slow-acting drug that gnaws on the left like bone cancer. Every few days another leftist crashes and burns while President Trump just gets stronger and stronger. There aren't enough mental institutions to house the victims. And no leftist is immune."

Same is true from Trump Deification Syndrome....you are (so far) living proof.
