Picc drops a 5-1 Dec to Cornell

Looked either disappointed from last night or gassed. Was ridden out after a TD in the 1st and had no offense against a FRESHMAN.

Will wrestle for 5th later today.

Pletcher of OHSU dec over DeSanto Iowa (Still a punk)
Demas of uo dec over Lee PSU

Neither...Vito is that good and a big 125 pounder. He's really a 133/141 pounder. Vito is highly regarded and has even beaten fix back in HS. I'll go ahead and say...Picc has had a great season and has made tremendous strides. With that said, he's wrestled a fairly soft schedule, and that's not his fault. Can't help who you wrestle at the end of the day. Now he's wrestling some top tier guys with a healthy spencer lee and now Vito. Picc has established himself as a top 4 guy, but hopefully he can make another jump and maybe be a finalist next year.

No excuses for Picc, Vito out wrestled him and deserved the win. But just a little background on him...

Vito is from Long Island, NY like Picc. As an 8th grader he took 2nd at state to another 8th grader - his current teammate Yianni. He's very good (cadet world team) and very big. Wrestled 138 as a HS senior and 60/61 kg in freestyle. Question with him was how would he handle the cut to 125. Pretty well it seems.

Cornell coaches have said he's struggled all season with the weigh cut and has missed matches b/c of it. He'll be at 133 and there's talks of him eventually going to 141 and moving Yanni to 149. Cornell is quietly putting together a really nice squad that can challenge for years to come.

Koll said immediately after Vito's first match down at 125 (against UNI) that Vito would be tough to beat in a tournament setting with the 2 hour weigh in. I thought he would be an AA at 133 this year.

Agree about Cornell. They get Ben Darmstadt back next year and the recruiting has really picked up.

It's official. Penn State wraps up their 4th straight and 8th National title in 9 years.

They also said on ESPN during an interview he's at 125 this year as a way to prepare himself for 2020 olympics 57kg

What do we think of the guys like travis Wittake and anthony montalvo (spell check on both names)?

Hoping they've jumped levels since we last saw them 3 months ago. Especially Travis, we need him to be a multiple time high AA.

A good ending to this session with Pic pin. Geer comeback decision and Weigel dominant decision for 3rd. We will place 3rd. I like it that Weigel's not quitting because of injuries has ended with a strong all American finish. Iowa does not bother me anymore it is Penn. St. who I believe at least bend to the breaking point and possibly break many rules. However we have been dinosaurs the last 10 years and have been left behind. We should have been leaders but Coach Smith did not take care of business but with Coach Smith and young coaches maybe we will catch up. A step in that direction would be Fix winning as a freshman tonight.

As a guy whose witnessed probation to a Program, Smith most likely doesn't bend any rules that could generate NCAA inquiry. We got left behind with the emergence of RTC recruiting tactics.

Who knows if we level the playing field? I know there's a window with Penn State losing 57/97 next year.
