I think we will learn a lot about the starters by how the backups perform in Chattanooga. Reece will hit it early with a potential match with Ayala from Iowa in the second round, win that and he gets the 3 seed Surtain from Mizzou. 2 Cowboys at 149, 2 at 157, 2 at 285.

Manibog loses in the pigtails to Penn States 157 4-0 gave up nearly 3 minutes of ride time. Doucet beats Michigan States starter with a takedown around 10 seconds left in the match. Another thing to watch here is 19 year old high school junior Cody Chittum who was a onetime recruit.

Joey Sanchez loses by 5-1 decision to Buffalos John Arceri. No score during 1st period, then Sanchez got ridden the whole 2nd period. Started from neutral in the 3rd, and Arceri got a takedown. Sanchez escaped and got a decent shot on Arceri but Arceri countered and got another TD

Jalen Harper wins by 5-3 Dec over Appalachian States starter Cody Bond.

1st period: Harper got a takedown in the first period and nearly gave up a reversal but managed to only give up an escape.

2nd period: Harper managed to reverse Bond and rode him for a while before Bond escaped.

3rd period: Harper got his RT up over a minute and managed to fight off several shots from Bond for the victory.

Gavin Stika wins by 7-1 dec to advance to the round of 16

Doucet wins 3-1 in SV to make it to the Round of 16.

Austin Harris loses a close match in the Round of 32

Reece Witcraft loses his 2nd match by major Dec against Drake Ayala from Iowa.

Andrew Bloemhof loses by 6-0 dec to Real Woods

Victor Voinovich wins by 3-2 dec to get into the quarterfinals. He’ll wrestle Zach Price from South Dakota State. Should be a good gauge.

Also Joey Sanchez lost his consolation match so he’s done. Daniel Manibog wins his match to advance to the next round.

Gavin Stika wins with a TD in SV over Matt Waddell to advance to the quarterfinals.
Witcraft, Harper and Harris all win conso matches. Stika, Voinovich wrestle in the qtrs. at 6:30pm. Stika faces Loew of Cornell and Voinovich Zach Price of S. Dak. St. Witcraft has 2nd TF of the tournament. Manibog won a conso match.

Stika’s opponent Loew any relation to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Curtis Loew? If you don’t know that song I recommend listening to it.

Just watched Patrick Kennedy(Iowa) lose to a WVU guy in OT. The WVU guy was completely gassed. Big drop off at 165 for the Hawkeyes.

Victor beat Sandoval Northern Colorado in the consolation Semifinals 4-1. Looked solid. Had 3 minutes of RT, good gas tank.

Harris at 285 in 7th place match along with Stika at 184, Harper at 157 and Voinovich wrestling for 3rd. Hunter Richard from Cornell just dec. Brock Mauler 6-4. It was 1-1 between Harper and Richard late in the 3rd period and Harper had one takedown reverse on a review and close to another takedown but Richard took him down to his back late for what looked like a lop-sided win but was not. In my opinion the Takedown he took away from Harper was probably not a takedown when they stopped the action but might have been a takedown seconds later if not stopped. Richard extremely strong but Harper looked quicker but might have gassed at the end. These 4 backups all looked good.
BTW Patrick McKee Mn. dec. Drake Ayala 6-5 after trailing 4-1 in the first period. Might have been the match of the tournament.

Looking at FloArena and PSU has only 1 guy on the podium with Beard in the finals. Seth Nevills, Joe Lee & Facundo didn't place.

Cael is currently checking the transfer portal.
I was honestly surprised that Facundo didn’t place. He’s a true freshman so he has time to turn it around but he was a top recruit last year.

I wonder what it is like wrestling for Cael? He loves you right up until a transfer comes in at your weight. Hey Michael Beard, have you met Max Dean? He’s going to come in and compete for your spot. I know that you were an AA your first season and have done everything that I’ve asked of you, but Max really wanted to come. It’s worth that possible extra 4-5 team points….you know.

My take is that Cael is a ruthless competitor. He's not in it to be liked or win friends, just win. I can respect that as long as he plays inside the lines. Can't prove it, but I have my doubts.

Really liked how he wrestled. Kids already a hammer on top, he's going to be a good one
I didn’t get to see the match he lost. All of the other matches I saw he looked really solid. Guys are not going to be taking bottom against him. On that note, when is the last time anyone saw a college wrestler with both boots thrown in actually use a half that rolled over the bottom guy? It’s a tough position for the referee. The bottom guy is getting dominated but the top guy can’t pin him in that position.

Voinovich takes 3rd by injury default while leading 4-0. Nice showing by him.

In all his wins, he controlled the entire match. Held center. Dictated the action. This includes a match vs a R12 guy from last year. Performed very well.
