Screw the teachers

I'd want to see evidence of that. I just can't imagine that.

I can see them not getting into the capital if it was at capacity. One in one out. But shouting obscenities? Ummm, not buying it.
Could be, I got this 2nd hand.

I don’t know about this incident. It certainly seems over the top and unbelievable. I will say this however and that is when I have challenged the teachers arguements I have been called everything from ignorant to racist but not one has been able to refute my facts or vary their arguement points. It goes straight to name calling and hatred. It’s very difficult to have a dialogue with that. I am convinced at this point they are used to arguing with kids and go right to emotional responses and don’t know what to do when confronted with logic.

It is easy to say I support the teachers. I think we can all agree to that. This isn’t all about the teachers and there is more to it than that. You can support a teacher pay raise and be against the strike but teachers and their supporters can’t even accept that as a position.

I support a teacher pay raise in theory, but I am against any practical steps anyone might take to make a pay raise happen. If the teachers want that bad, then they better hope that it just happens spontaneously.

What is your take on teachers pay coming from energy tax credits?

So the crook superintendent has pushed the testing window a week. Glad they can just make up the rules as they go.

Agree. Hard to get that message out, but many feel that way.

My 5th grader is testing this week. Some of the teachers are returning to school for those specific tests only while the rest of the school is shut down.

Great. Glad your teachers have the dignity to do their jobs that they signed contracts for. Unfortunately the rest of the state is not so lucky.

That’s bullshit. Either walk out or don’t. Same as sports and other extra curricular activities.

They aren’t doing their jobs. The are doing part of their job. A small part, but the part that is tied to federal funding. **** that.

Funny you say that. I support better schools, just not any new laws, income taxes, or revenue streams. I think if we slow down, do nothing, and leave it to the legislature they'll fix everything.

We need to explore non-revenue increase options for better schools. Like the moldy bathrooms and rooms -- maybe meet outside. I've crunched some numbers and about 65% of our school days are temperate enough that with some layering in the winter and a simple garden hose when it's hot, we can save millions in capital costs.

Am I crazy to think something bigger and darker is at play in all of this? Like groups or people using the desperate teachers to achieve political gains.

Deep dark red state with zero Democratic power. Horribly underpaid teachers. Get them to turn on and march against those in charge. Now demanding them to get get rid of certain tax cuts to pay the funding. Tax cuts that Democrats have never liked.

We all know where NEA and OEA money goes to.

This is one of the protesters, look at her radical leftist shirt:

You're not crazy. You see it with your own eyes. We all do.

Which is why @poke2001 is correct that symbolism and language matters.

The OEA rep is a real gem....cringe when I see her on the tube. Agree this is a darker and deeper deal than what it appears on the surface. I loath unions and except for police, fire and pilots can’t see a reason for them at all.

Uh, having a mother who worked in/retired from the garment industry (Bristow), back when the US had a thriving garment industry, might change your thinking just a little. The I.L.G.W.U. kept the factories from being sweat shops.
