We improved our run game to 170 YPG last year, up from only 127 in 2015 and 137 in 2014. This was only good for 7th in conference and 68 in the country. 5 Big 12 teams finished in the top 25 in the country in rushing showing how balanced the offenses are in the Big 12 and one of the reasons it is so tough to be a DC in the Big 12(4 Big 12 teams were in the top 25 in passing and 6 Big 12 teams were in the top 25 in total offense).
My question is, do we need to improve this? The strength of our offense is obviously passing but it is so important to be able to run. We only averaged 159 YPG in 2011 but our YPC was much higher. I would think our YPC would definitely improve this fall so it would be possible to improve our YPG without taking away any passing attempts.
