NIL is ultimately why Nick Saban retired. Each summer he has all the incoming freshmen over to his lake house for the weekend, to meet with their families, get to know them etc. He said in 2023 when the kids and families left, his wife came up to him and said 'Why are we doing this?" He asked what she meant, she said she spent all weekend talking to parents and all the parents wanted to know was how much money they were going to get from NIL.

There will be a ton of 'surcharges' added to athletic events, and it will be positioned as 'this is going straight to the players' when of course it won't. You're right, college game is done. It had a good run.

The next 4 games is a killer schedule for the Sooners. I don't know if the winningest team of the modern era has enough pros on the roster to compete.

Since we're on the topic, I never thought I'd ever see a season where there were cheaper ticket options on OU's schedule than at oSu. Pokes tickets have gotten out of hand. Miss the days of seeing Bedlam in Stillwater for $12.50.

This is what a college football program resorts to when the big money alums won't sign off on the current plan. Pretty simple, but also sad.
