Revoke my security clearance, too, Mr. President

August 16 at 2:44 PM
William H. McRaven, a retired Navy admiral, was commander of the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command from 2011 to 2014. He oversaw the 2011 Navy SEAL raid in Pakistan that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Dear Mr. President:

Former CIA director John Brennan, whose security clearance you revoked on Wednesday, is one of the finest public servants I have ever known. Few Americans have done more to protect this country than John. He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don’t know him.

Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.

Like most Americans, I had hoped that when you became president, you would rise to the occasion and become the leader this great nation needs.

A good leader tries to embody the best qualities of his or her organization. A good leader sets the example for others to follow. A good leader always puts the welfare of others before himself or herself.

Your leadership, however, has shown little of these qualities. Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation.

If you think for a moment that your McCarthy-era tactics will suppress the voices of criticism, you are sadly mistaken. The criticism will continue until you become the leader we prayed you would be.

Another petty and childish action by DJT. Not suprised...

Twas nothing but a great start.

I read it but can't say that it changed my mind any.
Me either. Maybe the ex-CIA director shouldn't act like a crazy partisan hack. His constant use of hyperbole makes me wonder if he's got a serious case of the TDS. I'd audit the crap out of what he's accessed, when, and why.

On The Morning Joe in July, he gave the impression that the Russians had dirt on Trump. When asked for further, he backtracked and said he wasn't saying that any exists and gave his "but he acts like he's guilty" muh Trump answer. Pretty irresponsible for a guy with a security clearance in my opinion.

As French said in the opinion piece, Brennan provided false statements to Congress and that Brennan can't lose his clearance for exercising him 1st amendment rights "short of evidence of disloyalty to the United States, instability, or vulnerability to improper influence". Brennan has certainly shown instability in many of his twitter rants and TV appearances.

Honestly, I was surprised to learn that these individuals maintained their security clearances once they left the FBI (or other agency).

I think that it is the norm for them to keep clearances in case the next administration needs them to come in an support the transfer of information.

However, even with the clearance, it doesn't mean that they can actually use it for anything other than put it on a resume'

I knew they kept them for some time during the transition to a new administration to be able to provide context to the new players on new intelligence matters. Then I heard they are renewable every five years not for specific reasons but by tradition.

Fake news
The bottom image in the TPUSA meme (which has been shared thousands of times) wasn’t taken in the United States, despite the implication created by its inclusion here. The photograph was taken in Dover, England, on 30 January 2016 by Press Association photographer Gareth Fuller and depicts anti-fascists who clashed with nationalists during an anti-immigration rally in the Kent County town.

Pokecub, the POS ex rodent in chief ran off Tennat (sp) and a few other that didn’t agree with him. Don’t remember much criticism from the knee pad wearing media then.

Trump should have fumigated the whole place by firing and then revoking security clearances for all those pinko left wing commie bedwetters.

he maintains zero awareness

he’s a praying mantis, making like a stick on a black wall

I was really naive, I thought once you were out your security clearance was revoked. It expands greatly the number of people that can be subject to bribes by foreign agents.

Can these people become paid lobbyists for companies and countries while maintaining their clearance? How many more computers is top secret intelligence sitting on computers while retired old men and women read intelligence from their computer in their underwear? How about their phones? How do they get this info securely, if they do discuss it with a spouse could a spy be listening? WTH does this cost tax payers to support? Once you are in the mafia you are in for life? You can go on and on.

When you a leave a company, you do not keep your credentials.

I think they should pull them for everyone on a go forward basis. This is not a political or partisan issue for me. I was really shocked this is how a country that prides itself on security and intelligence conducts itself, it is a major weakness in the system.

Congress should pass a law and the President should sign it, end it because it is stupid, risky, and costly.

Most don’t keep them, they are for the select few who’s expertise may be called upon to help guide a future government agency if they are called upon. In reality this is a punishment of the American government more than it is of Brennan. There will be more folks, just get your excuses ready now, especially for Bruce Ohr.

Not sure what level of clearance consistutes “free speech”.

I had several family members with “secret” clearances that were removed when they changed jobs or had projects they were working on cancelled (the Navy A-12 Avenger II, for one).
It never stopped them from complaining to anyone within earshot about Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, clouds, Sooners, Knotty Pine closing, etc.

In all seriousness, he doesn’t need a security clearance to be a tv correspondent. Any sensitive information he may have still have had access to probably shouldn’t have been shared with the public in the first place.

Not needed, our currently elected and appointed officials should run the government. If they need to bring them in, and BTW let’s know how many times this actually happens, then brief them and consult,
they should be on a need to know basis. No excuses needed, just eliminate the practice entirely, it is not a political issue, it is a security issue. Who keeps tabs if those old farts are going senile, become alcoholics or druggies, or gets their picture taken with a hooker by a spy to blackmail them? Why pay to have surveillance on retired people we may never need? Utterly useless practice, you pull them in only on a need to know basis if you need them. Nothing more then Washington elites, Reps and Dems, wanting to keep their toys when they leave.
