Heard Tsirtsis is going 149 not the same guy he was a few years ago but interesting to see in that field

Would really appreciate more updates. Can look at message board but not much else because of poor bandwidth. Thanks to whoever can

Hale and Fix both advance to the 125# semis.

Boo TF Wyoming kid 19-4 to advance to the semis.

Gfeller with a 10-2 decision over a kid from Campbell to advance to the semis.

Harding and Moran still alive in the Consis.

wins for Marsden 3 rd place , Hale gets the win over Bresser Defaulted somehow.
Lewallen wins 12-8 over Josh Heil yeah little brother.

Great finals match with fix. That kid was taller with better range and was in on a keg several times but he handled him when it counted. Nice college debut be that as a redshirt. Would have loved to see Jojo at this tournament. Hoping he is at scuffle

I wonder if Smith was in Daton's corner, if he would have made him take down in the 3rd. I think he would have in that situation.

Good tournament with some nice performances. On the high school side I thought Montalvo and Coleman both looked good. And Ferrari is tough - athletic and unorthodox. On the college side I thought Daton, Boo, Kaden, Eli and Andrew looked good.

I was a little unsure about Daton at 125 (and 57 kg) with same day weigh ins, but he had his usual energy and strength. Not to mention the resolve to finish that last takedown. In freestyle I'm even more convinced that he will be a star for the US at 57 kg. As far as folkstyle, his far ankle and crotch lift scrambling will make him hard to score on and he has a developing top game as well. Very impressive for a guy that has really only been focused on folkstyle for the last 2 weeks after training for Junior Worlds and U23 Worlds.

I think he probably would have also (I also think Daton gets out in under a minute). John had Kaid take down against Gross in every match. He believes you should be strong in all 3 positions. There's an interview on track where John says it's a pride thing, that you won't let someone hold you down. He also tells a funny story...

During his redshirt year John obviously had a lot of international freestyle success. When he returned for his junior year he lost a match in November 1986 to Gil Sanchez from Nebraska, who was particularly tough on top. John says that he was sure it was a fluke after having beaten some of the best wrestlers in the world that past summer. It bothered him so much that he registered for a tournament the following weekend just to get another crack at Sanchez so he could whip him. The interviewer asks so how did it go. John laughs and says that he only won by a point. He says that's when he realized folkstyle wrestling was hard and that he was going to have to get serious about his own mat wrestling. Of course, Sanchez turned out to be pretty good. John beat him in the NCAA finals 4 months later for his first title. BTW, that match is on YouTube. John chooses bottom and escapes in 2 seconds and then later Sanchez chooses top and John reverses him in about 15 seconds. John won 17-4.

I'm pretty sure John was there and would have been in Datons corner if so.

I thought Daton wore out just a bit towards the end of the day and the weight may have been a factor. I don't think it will be a problem but that with some nerves and adrinelime may have played a role.

On the mat a lot of those guys don't make sense. They think we should pull Daton's redshirt which does not make any sense. I don't know if he can beat Picc in folk style yet. We are very good at the first 3 weights and none of them have a redshirt year. Redshirting is the right move. Plus he needs to work on being on the bottom and getting takedowns on the top college guys.. May be he got tired but maybe those guys he wrestled he has not wrestled those type of guys in folk style that often. I hope he wrestles some more in matches. I sure would have liked to see a healthy Joe Smith at Reno. He needs to get better this redshirt season. I thought Boo is good but I thought he wrestled Tsirtis's type of match and was not near as aggressive as he should have been. In general with his abilities he should be more aggressive in most of his matches, Kaden wrestled okay but is not ready for those top guys especially when he is on bottom ( which of course is common for true freshman). The other guy there was Marsden who is funky but I don't believe he can do his stuff to all American type wrestlers. I wish Keegan Moore was developing more but who knows.

I think Mardsen will be a very dangerous guy when he gets down to and can maintain 184.
