Probably true. Wisconsin is definitely the first state that ever elected a Socialist.
Did a little wikipedia'ing about this. They did have three socialist mayors, one serving for quite a long time.
I thought it was interesting one of them was mayor of Milwaukee at the same time Joe McCarthy was on his crusade.
