What do you have against the republican "establishment"? be specific.

Who let you down and how? I said be specific. These are the responses I thought I would get when I asked the question.

I like Dr. Carson because he isn't a politician. In my mind today, any prior political experience is a negative. By definition any candidate politician is 'establishment'.

Republicans in congress have just rolled over for 7 years. Screw them all and blow the whole damn party up.

Ok fair enough. But you are wrong. The Republican party has given Obama hell for 7 years. They have refused to support or compromise on anything for 7 years. To their credit, they have quite rightly refused to capitulate to the radicals in their party that wanted them to shut down the government or.... many times worse! default on the debt. The radicals are few thank god. Ted Cruz voters.

Otherwise the GOP congress has done their citizens a massive disservice by refusing to even negotiate. The founding fathers would be ashamed.

Derp.

Well I will give you examples. I voted straight republican until 2008. 2008 is when I first questioned republican judgement.

First, after Obama was elected, some republicans came out against TARP. TARP. The Bush/Paulsen plan to save the world. I consider anyone who opposed TARP, without which would have led to a massive fiscal catastrophe and 25% unemployment to be a an idiot. I will never understand how anyone could support chaos.

2nd: Obama stimulus. Despite TARP, the economy was in freefall. The stimulus included about 40% in tax cuts in a bipartisan attempt by Obama to create consensus. He was opposed by everyone in the GOP despite the country being in crisis. It passed and rescued the country from what would have been massive teacher layoffs and economic collapse. .

3rd: The Affordable Care act (which has been a MASSIVE success) could and should have been a bipartisan effort. Great Republican ideas like tort reform were never considered once the GOP decided to not do their job and make this a campaign issue. Not to mention health saving accounts and insurance across state lines. All were possible and should have been a part of the bill. No no no, lets just demonize a great bill and not get our stuff. And lets not forget that everyone being required to have insurance is a REPUBLICAN idea.

4th: Here is the ultimate example of why I no longer vote republican

Once upon a time they used to say Only Nixon could have gone to china. The brilliant opening in 1972 changed the geopolitical equation, but many said only Nixon could have done it. Had a democrat tried, he would have been called a traitor.

In similar fashion many have said that only a democrat president can bring entitlement reform. Bush tried in 2005 and failed. Obama might have been able too in 2011.

He famously said to Speaker Boehner: "if I jump you jump"

The GOP was to agree on revenue increases through closed loopholes

Obama was to agree on entitlement reforms.

A GRAND BARGAIN!

The most important fiscal agreement between the two parties in a century

Who killed it? Eric Cantor

Note: Eric Cantor was defeated in the next election by a tea party candidate who said he was not conservative enough.

This is why I cannot vote GOP anymore. they are Loco!

Let that set in: Eric Cantor. The far right radical conservative that killed the Grand Bargain, was deemed not conservative enough and voted out. This is the hysterical spiral that, fueled by Levin, Hannity and Limbaugh, the GOP is in.

Have fun voting for Bernie, Brt.
The question of who should have compromised and when is sort of irrelevant at this point. Come January of 2017 the GOP will set the legislative agenda and will have a president to work with. Republicans will set the agenda and enact legislation and control the narrative to a much greater extent. This is still a center-right country and the election of BHO was an anamoly, a massive but almost inevitable electoral gas passing exercise based on skin color, hope and change marketing, and intentional democrat campaign vagueness to scam voters. All is about to be at least a little more right with the world.

Day-um. Harsh truths.

I wish you weren't so pro- tort reform. It simply doesn't work.

They are un-electable pharisees

Chi, I disagree with every single thing you've ever written, but I appreciate your use of "pharisees."

This is fantasy. The Republicans talked a good game but when it came time to stop the President's illegal regulations and executive orders they have folded like a cheap suit. Look at the last budget they gave him 90% of what he wanted.

This President isn't interested in compromise. He's barely lifted a finger to work with congress, he's even pissed people in his own party off.

90% of what this President wants should be vehemently opposed by Republicans unconditionally but like I said the old guard, ruled by lobbyists, just like the Democrats have surrendered. People of both parties are sick of the Washington way and either conservatives or liberals are going to get the White House and it's going to be interesting times.

This is still a center-right

I am not so sure anymore. Immigration and young people have made us Center left. Just look at issues like Gay Marriage that are much different in polls from 10 years ago.

How do you expect them to challenge regulations except in court? And what did Obama get in last years busget that you would have opposed? Did you want the sequester to continue?

And why are Republicans still so worked up about the Deficit? It's currently at 2.2% of GDP. Well below historical norms. With the economy faltering we need to be spending money, especially on Infrastructure which is crumbling throughout the country. Roads, bridges, airports, dams, water treatment plants all need urgent attention.

Like almost all government stats the deficit is either under reported or like unemployment, not a real number.

The real unfunded liabilities of the USA is closer to 100 trillion when you factor in SS and other entitlements not counted in the annual deficit.

If you don't see that as a real problem then so be it but I'm not going to waste any more time on someone who believes in liberal economics, it's all fantasy. Sounds good to gullible people but the numbers are just ridiculous.

This perpetual alarmism has been going around since at least the 1980's. Where's the collapse? Ya'll have been predicting it for decades now. Between the debt and Obamacare, how are the lights even on?

They can cut off funding which supposedly the constitution gives that power to the House. But we all know no one in Washington follows the constitution, especially President Obama.

Have you even looked at the financial news in 6 months? Good grief, talk about putting your head in the sand. The bubble of 0% interest rates and flooding the economy with cash is starting to crash around the Presidents head.

The world economy is very sick, but I guess all those large deficits most of the world have been running have no negative effect on that, right Brt?

So is this it? Is this our debt-created world crash?

COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.

ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible Times. It’s 5.6%.

COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?

ABBOTT: No, that’s 23%.

COSTELLO: You just said 5.6%.

ABBOTT: 5.6% Unemployed.

COSTELLO: Right 5.6% out of work.

ABBOTT: No, that’s 23%.

COSTELLO: Okay, so it’s 23% unemployed.

ABBOTT: No, that’s 5.6%.

COSTELLO: WAIT A MINUTE. Is it 5.6% or 23%?

ABBOTT: 5.6% are unemployed. 23% are out of work.

COSTELLO: If you are out of work you are unemployed.

ABBOTT: No, Obama said you can’t count the “Out of Work” as the unemployed. You have to look for work to be unemployed.

COSTELLO: BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!!!

ABBOTT: No, you miss his point.

COSTELLO: What point?

ABBOTT: Someone who doesn’t look for work can’t be counted with those who look for work. It wouldn’t be fair.

COSTELLO: To whom?

ABBOTT: The unemployed.

COSTELLO: But ALL of them are out of work.

ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work. Those who are out of work gave up looking and if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.

COSTELLO: So if you’re off the unemployment roles that would count as less unemployment?

ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!

COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don’t look for work?

ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down. That’s how it gets to 5.6%. Otherwise it would be 23%.

COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you. That means there are two ways to bring down the unemployment number?
ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.

COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?

ABBOTT: Correct.

COSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?

ABBOTT: Bingo.

COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier of the two is to have people stop looking for work.

ABBOTT: Now you’re thinking like a Democrat.

COSTELLO: I don’t even know what the hell I just said!

ABBOTT: Now you’re thinking like Hillary.
