When Trump was campaigning for President he repeatedly bragged that he hires only the "best people." In retrospect considering the people he has hired have included Omorosa, Mannafort, Carter Page, Papdopolous, Cohen, his original press spokesman (whose name I have forgotten), the good looking woman (whose name I have also forgotten) who rumors are she will be returning, I wonder if you have begun to question Trump's understanding of who the "best people" might be. I beg of you to not resort to "Hillary would have been worse." I agree Hillary would have been worse. I'm just curious if you still believe Trump only hires "the best."

I took his statement to be the same hyperbole that aligns to basically everything he spouts. Maybe I'm cynical, but I wonder how many people in Washington would fail under similar scrutiny that Trump's team has been under. I watched Obama nominate guys for Cabinet posts that eventually withdrew due to potential "pay for play" schemes or tax evasion, and those individuals didn't have a 13 person Federal tax force investigating anything they may have EVER done wrong.

Now before the libs come and bash me for being accepting of Trump's bozos, I'm not. I'm just cynical enough to believe that everyone in D.C. bends the rules to their benefit. We just never cared until we got a president that the D.C. establishment truly dislikes.

Very thoughtful reply. So I take it you never believed Trump hires only the "best," it was just another in his litany of lies. Forget the DC establishment for the moment, concentrate on the President. We are told he is different, he is a businessman, not a politician. And yet by your own admission he lies like a politician. As a die-hard Trump supporter does it concern you that he behaves in a very politicain-like manner?

You seem to believe people on here are “die-hard” Trump supporters. You keep throwing that term around. Why is that?

I don't believe hyperbole and lying is the same thing, but I do believe he is surrounded by politicians and they do as politicians do. I'd argue that Trump doesn't behave like a politician, but his people do. Trump twitter storms. He says things that simply wouldn't pass any level of muster. But he's surrounded by Washington insiders doing the same things they always have.

I'm pretty sure there are people on this board that are die-hard Trump supporters. Not many, but a few. My question was aimed mainly at them, but I am happy to get replies from anyone.

My observation of this board leads me to believe most "Trump supporters" are relatively tepid in their support; mostly their support stems from a pure hatred of Hillary, the Democratic Party and the rest of the left wing in general. As long as liberals and the MSM hate him they will support almost anything he does or says. They greatly enjoy seeing Alinsky's tactics, which the Democrats have used effectively for decades, turned on them with a vengeance. It is quite an interesting phenomenon..

I think support is always a dangerous word. Given our two party system, its become a game of who is less worse for us, and even as bombastic as Trump is, he is less worse for the long-term health of the US than the alternative. The US is on a march towards socialism, and we've proven that the government is unable to shrink. As such, I'd rather vote Republican and slow the government bloat vs. supporting candidates who openly promote an agenda of growing the government teet.

That's been the Republican attitude for as long as I can remember. Bob Dole was the epitome of that tactic. McConnell of Kentucky seems to have morphed into Bob Dole, would you agree? Does it concern you that Republicans don't seem to disagree with Democrats in their determined march toward socialism, they just want to slow it down to a manageable pace? No one with any public support seems to be resisting the trend. Certainly Donald Trump the nationalist/protectionist is not resisting. Ron Paul tried and was portrayed as a fruitcake. So is it your belief that the US will become a socialist state, there is nothing to be done about it, it is our fate?

Reactionaries only have one move.

Pure hatred? Now that's some hyperbole!

Change "pure hatred" to "strongly dislike the politics and policies" and you've painted an accurate picture of at least several on here, including me.

Yeah...except for the dozens of pet names she’s been given on this board. Hatred is absolutely an accurate usage haha

Hyperbole? Perhaps. I sense a lot of hatred for opposing "teams" on this board. Maybe it's just my hypersensitivity.

No the only move is reaction.
Oh, I see what you're meaning. The Republicans have no core values of their own, they can only react to the Democrats trying to put their core values (socialism/big government) into practice. Makes sense.

Yes. The only thing that would prevent the US from eventually becoming a socialist state would be a balanced budget amendment. If people truly understood how much the government spends (Rs & Ds) vs. what it takes in, and how much more it would have to take in via taxes to afford the continually proposed growth, then you might see enough people stand up to stop the madness. However, as long as its just some abstract $20T debt number that grows endlessly, we will continue proposing socialist (aka government controlled) solutions to problems.

You wish Republicans would pass a balanced budget amendment? So do I. BTW, I know R's aren't any better at managing the budget than D's are. They don't generally grow spending (outside of Bush's wars) but provide tax cuts which boost the economy but increase the deficit. Dems on the other hand boost government spending. But neither has moved to actually rein in government spending.

Or in trump’s case...tax cuts AND government spending. Sounds like a helluva “businessman”

"I only hire the best people" was on par with "most transparent administration in history"

You are just setting yourself up when you start using such extreme claims like best and most

I am less of a die-hard Trump and more of a "my wife is in academia, which option will least phuck that up". Trump was the best option for us.

I wrote earlier about the "tepid" support many, if not most, Trump supporters harbor toward the man. Does it concern you that such mild support might result in a Democratic resurgence? Frankly, it scares the hell out of me. Democrats have decided they can publicly declare themselves to be socialists; they do not worry that It will harm them politically. I don't think they would take that step unless they felt secure in knowing it won't harm them. If they reassume power should we not expect a reign of socialist terror to be unleashed? In the long run will Trump's ascension harm the country?

No, because their (dems) options, strategies, and executions have been so shit. They beat their own asses and I am fine with that.

Doesn't scare me at all. I'm confident the Dems will go to the left and trot someone out that makes Trump the better option - again.

Don’t look now, but you’re still shaking Pom poms. Trump’s policies haven’t achieved what trumpets want to believe they have. For example...

- Healthcare...still Obamacare
- Infrastructure...”trillion dollar bill” campaign promises
- Debt/deficits...exploding
- Wars...I guess past tweets denouncing sitting president for fighting wars instead of bringing troops home and then doing same thing is admirable lol

I wish they would so they could suffer the political consequences. We haven't had a good Hoover in like 90 years.

So if the Dems take control of the House after the midterms and begin a sustained embarkment of socialist programs that will not concern you? Say the Republicans retain the Senate and knock down every socialist proposal coming from the House (Which I find unlikely. The Republicans, you see, are big government statists every bit as much as the Dems. They will almost certainly advance some of the proposals in the hope they can control/administer/be in charge. They are politicians. Politicians are addicted to power.). Trump vetoes and is sustained. Dems will raise hell that Trump is blocking progress. Enough of the public is either tethered to the government teat or has been educated to prefer socialism that his re-election may very well be in jeopardy. Do you think that is a realistic situation?

And your useless party continues to fail when given every chance not to suck. Stfu basement dweller.

Speak for yourself on the Hoover...... Now back to your regular programming.

It should, but frankly, if this happens than we can only blame ourselves. If society decides it wants to go this direction, so be it. Sometimes you just have to let the child burn themselves on the stove to teach the lesson and hopefully the lesson will be one we can recover from.
