The ones with dark hair have a little too many 'shithole' genes for me. Nordic or bust.

All of them.

I just moved back to the United States a few year ago after being abroad for 17 years. I've unfortunately lost contact or connections with Oklahomans I hung out with in the mid-90's which has forced me to start over.

What's happened has been fascinating. As fate would have it, I've gotten to know an interesting collection of extremely hard working and educated immigrants that have been in America roughly 5 to 12 years. These are some of the best individuals I've ever met.

One friend of mine is from Cameroon who came over as a winner of the lottery. He's earned his masters degree since coming over, bought a new home in Yukon, became a father last year and recently advanced to a management position at Love's corporate. I can count on this guy for anything.

Another good friend of mine that I met through my girlfriend is a Brazilian fellow who played basketball at Northwestern in Alva. Great guy. He's been here a little over ten years and was recently named head trainer for the Denver Nuggets. What an accomplishment.

My point is, I've had the privilege of becoming close friends with immigrants from a variety of backgrounds that are incredibly dedicated to achieving the American dream. When I see these anti-immigrant comments on here, it honestly makes me wonder if any of these people actually know an immigrant, especially the ones from 'shithole countries'.

One thing I have heard quite a bit from immigrants since moving back here (and I've experienced this myself) is that it's hard getting to know people around here. Oklahomans have already established personal relationships and are not particularly interested in having a close friendship with immigrants. I think a lot of this has to do with family obligations. But having said that, it is hard getting to know Oklahomans....particularly at an older age.

What's happened has been fascinating. I know longer really 'connect' with white Oklahomans. Nothing against them, we just don't have much in common aside from sports (it's weird moving back here in your 40's). I would assume these individuals came over legally? Not one conservative is against legal immigration. We are for legal immigration and a vetting process that keeps terrorists out and insures that if someone immigrates to the US they have a chance to succeed and not be on welfare all of their life.

Most of the older immigrants I know came over to the US legally and they are for enforcing our laws, they back Trump.

The US is a modern developed country, to have the same immigration standard we had 200 years ago when no one needed to read and we needed labor to build this country is far different then what the US is today.

I understand that. But I know a ton of immigrants and not one of them is lazy or accepts assistance. In fact, they work harder or just as hard as any local I know (you should see some of the Yanks I work with).

The only immigrants I ever knew on welfare was a Vietnamese family with six daughters whose father died from brain cancer. The mother worked at Luby's for years while also drawing assistance. Today, five of those daughters have earned degrees and are working in the medical field.

Just as we get frustrated by people living on welfare, I also get frustrated at the number of white and black Americans I meet who have never stepped foot outside of Oklahoma (or their comfort zone for that matter) who speak about yet know absolutely nothing about the immigrant experience.

Well stated.

Not reading the news much? The POTUS was questioning why we take legal immigrants from "shithole countries". Might want to catch up a little.

Part of coming over legally should be the ability to demonstrate you can succeed once here and not go on welfare for life, we need vetting. Dems came in and tried to negotiate a one way deal after a good bipartisan meeting and negotiated in bad faith, it pissed him off as it should every conservative that wants to make a permanent fix to immigration. I am sure the President is fine taking Haitians or anyone else that are educated and can improve themselves in the US. But perhaps the Dems need them to work the agricultural fields and tend to the lawns of movie stars while on government assistance and are unable to find a job if they can not speak English or turn on a PC.

I know it is hard for you to put Trump in context, you are so mad at the "racist" you can only think emotionally, not rationally.

So you said "no conservative is opposed to legal immigration as I choose to redefine legal immigration"?

I read your original statement as "no conservative is opposed to legal immigration".

Clearly my emotions interferred with my reading comprehension.

He asked why we needed more, not to ban them all. It is a legit question to ask, we can not take everyone. Yes, your emotional.

Are you proposing an open border policy and for no laws or vetting to exist for immigration? If your answer is no, your response is not central to the issue and in the big scheme of things yours is a small sample size. If your answer is yes, congrats on making a huge policy decision that costs taxpayers over $100 billion a year based on your limited sample size.

You might consider some okies other then yourself have advanced degrees, have traveled extensively internationally and compared notes, and can read the internet internet and source information for themselves.

Who in their right mind would be against continued legal immigration?
Well, the left believes that illegal immigration is just a social construct, so there really isn't any illegal immigration. So if you're against illegal immigration, you're actually against legal immigration in their mind. It's abject stupidity defined.

This is of course subject to the victim class status of the immigrant/refugee. Persecuted Iraqi Christians don't qualify because they are Christian, and since the left has spent considerable energy alienating Christians, Christians don't typically vote Democrat, so there are no votes to save, er, I mean lives to save.

I’m not friends with my neighbors of 6 years and they’re rich, white, and not liberal.

If I have offended with such references, my apologies. In my mind a bit of a nostalgic/endearing term, when life was quite a bit simpler.
I don’t remember you saying anything, my left coast friend.

Yeah, I don't recall you saying anything negative in the past either. I'm pretty sure that growing up in flyover country buys you lifelong credibility.
