The internet stuff is trivial compared to A.I.

Google has moved into God mode, being the ultimate arbiter of what's right and wrong.

Will circle back...

Without having delved in too much yet, how much is "buyer beware" appropriate when the place of consumption is properly understood for what it is(news outlet, etc) versus a seemingly benign search engine that brings you what it wants you to see in response to your query?

How are youths or the infirm protected from the results?

Excellent point.

  1. the principle that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before a purchase is made.

Do you consider water and electricity to also be caveat emptor?
How many water companies you got running g service to your house?

if i built a house between piedmont and okarche and couldn't get city water then yes i'd make sure i had a good well drilled before i built

electricity lol

you see all those windmills?
someone's gotta live under them and what they do to sight would be real similar to me leaving a trailer full of hogs outside your door

water and electricity?

let's say your grandad grew up on an allotment on the grand river and one day the corp of engineers came along and said you gotta move we're putting a river here

i understand your point and concern
i'm not trying to win an argument
or be obtuse

my point is you best put your jockey strap on every gd day

Serious post:

Awfully easy to target your anxiety about the future into an identifiable "foe". Especially if you perceive that "foe" to be contrary to your ideology. In the end, everything Google, Facebook, Apple, et al does, someone else is trying to do better, faster, cheaper.

The idea that search is somehow a utility is ludicrous. Multiple competitors exist. There is no monopoly of ideas or technology that precludes someone from overtaking the market leader. The real threat to the Google search business isn't even really search - it is a paradigm shifting approach in a university lab or garage somewhere. Focusing on any one segment of the existing business models of any of the large technology leaders is fool hardy.

That's what they should be doing instead of shaping opinion by manipulation.

Again, what in Schmidts speech wasn't a complete lie?

Asserting that everything was a lie? Really? He can't be stupid, naive, or just wrong in his assessment prior to the last election cycle? OK Sparky, glad to know you had it all figured out when the rest of the world hadn't.

Point to the truths. All his comments about not knowing don't jive with anyone that sells advertising.

He knows everything and how to get it in front of every eye he wants for maximum impact.

You know this.

Sorry, not going to spend time and effort arguing every line of an article I don't really give a shit about to refute a nonsesensical point of view.
