Scott with another tech fall against Venezuala. If he can get to 57 and still have a gas tank, watch out.

He's in the finals along with Haze, Green, Molinaro, Burroughs, and Bradley.

King of odd they are wrestling non olympic weights. Doesn't this qualify spots for the Olympics?

I thought the same thing April, but I don't think this is the qualifier. I think that's next week and bears a confusingly similar name.

Interview with Coleman afterward was pretty good. Link below

Here's the interview after his semis match too...

He's really got his head on straight and seems to be cutting the weight the right way. Said he was down to 58.5 kg before this tourney and he didn't look to be missing a step. Impressive.

I'm sure there are others, but can anyone think of another D1 head coach who was competing during his team's season? John picked the HC position in '92, but that was after his last Olympic run right?

I seem to remember Smith saying that it is too hard to train and coach in his last year as a competitor. I thought he was speaking from experience - meaning he coached his last year of competition.

Yes, his first year coaching was 91-92 and his last year of competition was 92 Olympics.

That makes sense. I thought his first year was 92-93. I can't think of any others at the moment. I think Kerry McCoy's last year of competition was 2004 and then took the HC spot at Stanford in 2005.

Either way...I'm impressed with Coleman for taking it on. Sure hope he earns the spot.
