After just one year with Lou at OU, Gavin is taking the head spot for Pitt. Really hate to see him go!!! Best of luck Keith!

I've read on other boards that some folks think Pitt should have tried to get a bigger "name", but I think this is a good hire. Gavin is smart and a very good technician that maximized his own abilities. A revived Pitt would be good for wrestling and I hope he does well.

I agree. Interested to see who Rosselli replaces him with.

1990, was it you who hinted Rosselli might be getting rid of Lightner? Any more word on that?

Feel free to email me at miccomacey@cox.net if need be. Thanks!

Up in PA. They Pitt area is a goldmine of talented wrestlers. Kids from PA and Ohio are all close by. If he can recruit they may do well.

What the other boards said is that Pitt had Santoro (an alum) and then Flynn locked up, but screwed up both times. Then they interviewed Heskett. Then they gave Bono a very handsome offer that he declined.

These were primarily because Pitt still does not have an RTC, has poor facilities -- and would not commit to upgrading either situation.

(To see the facilities, click on Petersen Sports complex icon at http://insidepittpanthers.com/ -- and don't forget to scroll up once in the wrestling room.)

I think Gavin could be a very good coach. But he's gonna be hamstrung by an administration that considers the sport an afterthought.

Agreed.... for years they have needed heavier coaches..... think it will be a great fit..... now we need the wrestlers up top so Heflin and start working with them. It's EXTREMELY weak up at 74-heavy.

We're bringing in a couple highly rated kids this year at the higher weights. Hopefully Heflin can help shape them up.

Yea.... that's what I'm hearing. Heard the guys at Princeton loved Heflin so excited about him. Just having a hard time getting fired up about the next season after that total collapse at NCAAs. I understand it's gonna be a process but honestly right now only see the potential for possibly one AA next year and that's Longo. That stat Flo had about OU having only 1 AA in the past 5 recruiting classes was hard to believe.... thanks Mark. I'm still pulling hard for the Crimson but I guess I'm just still pouting. Hopefully Lou is the man! We shall see!!
