OSU Women’s Team

Does anyone remember during the Missouri dual when the men's team was nice enough to let one of our girl wrestlers do a short bout during intermission against some chick from Emporia State and the OSU girl got pinned in the first 20 seconds? Some of the guys in my group lost their minds high-fiving and laughing like a pack of hyenas. I would never do that, of course, because I am more mature than them.

This is my home town and I had no idea.

I’m going to give my dad grief for not telling me about this. I’m willing to bet good money he drove the bus to more than one of her wrestling meets.

Well, now I understand why my dad didn’t tell me about her.

I wasn’t sure who her family was until I heard back from my dad a bit ago.

I’m pretty sure her dad and aunt are close to someone in the OSU AD (also from my hometown ‘area’) which possibly explains the OSU choice.

The only other thing I’ll say about it is good luck to the OSU coaching staff.

Cowgirls are crushing it on the recruiting trail. They've pulled top 5 prospects at several weights and are putting together a legitimate schedule for next season. Garcia is improving by leaps and bounds. Rebecca Roper is now running operations to take some things off of Olejnik's plate.

Important to support them. I know they're not officially part of the athletic department, but the reality is that there are only a handful of programs like that right now and the Cowgirls will compete at the same level as those "D1" programs for the foreseeable future while the sport is in probationary status.

Sorry guys but this is nothing but a distraction. It is a distraction for our wrestlers, coaches, and donors. The best thing for the men's program would be for the women's program to go away and never come back. We need every wrestler, coach, and donor to be laser focused on one thing: chasing down Penn State. We cannot get distracted with irrelevant stuff.

Take whatever money you were going to spend driving to a women's dual or buying a ticket and give it to NIL for the men's program.

Unfortunately, I agree for the most part. Does Penn State have a Women's Program?

I am a tad upset they jumped the posse cost on our season tickets up. If the amount went to Wrestling, I wouldn't have a problem. But I don't want or intend to donate to anything but Wrestling until I have too much money, and I'd still probably only want to donate to Wrestling.

I agree with you. I am currently giving monthly to Pokes with a Purpose with my "preference" recorded as for the money to go to wrestling. However, I am skeptical that it actually is.

Switch that up to Pokes Wrestling Club. I know for certain that goes to Wrestling...and you should get decent gifts.

That will change

While we are at it, let's shut down softball and WBB so Holiday and Lutz aren't distracted.

Hell, every dollar that doesn't go directly to the football program is an impediment to Mike Gundy chasing down a natty. Cut everything but that.

Terrible take. Providing more opportunities for women and girls is awesome and we have an opportunity to be on the front line of a growing sport. I do not think it will take away much from interest or donations for the men's program. I know for me it doesn't affect what I do and I have supported both...

Actually, keep softball and shut down mens BB, baseball AND Football. Mike Gundy has squandered on of the biggest investments in the history of CFB, yet we keep throwing money at a potato that thinks Mike Leach learned offense from watching him.

So yeah, I agree with part of your thoughts. Send money where it can best be spent, Kenny G and DT.

I know you’re being facetious it we wouldn’t be able to have wrestling without football

Hard disagree. The kinda money they’re needing for the Cowgirl wrestling team is PEANUTS compared to what the men’s team does and will cost. They’re not asking for cutting edge training equipment and gear. They need travel expenses and hotel stays paid for so they can compete in national tournaments. If missing that level of $$ is what sinks OSU’s chances of competing with PSU, then they were never going to compete with them to begin with.

I don't really care if we have women's wrestling or not.

If we do end up with more investment into women's wrestling it's not going to come at the expense of the men's program. The people behind the scenes aren't dumb. No one is taking the foot off the men's peddle.

In all honesty, I’ve never taken an interest in women’s wrestling until we started taking Iowa’s top female wrestlers, now I’m legitimately curious. If we got a Greco Roman team, I would miraculously be interested in Greco Roman wrestling.

How is this a distraction to our coaches or team exactly? They have their own coaches and I'm pretty sure they have combined practices or locker rooms. That would be about the only distraction I can see by having a women's team. I seriously doubt that anyone donating to Cowgirl wrestling hasn't already donated to the men's program at the max level they wanted to donate. I mean I donate to Wrestling, Softball, and basketball but if those other two sports didn't exist I wouldn't give more to CWC. MAYBE having a women's wrestling team gets someone who normally wouldn't donate to OSU interested in giving to OSU and starts giving money to the wrestling program and then it bleeds over to other sports. If we are the home of wrestling then we need to be the best regardless of gender. I see this more impactful at an Olympic level than at the NCAA level. I think Travis25's comments have made me pull the trigger on sending women's wrestling a little money. The club thanks you for your service sir.

If David doesn’t win a natty next year it’s your fault

My wife and I are planning on shifting some of our charitable giving for next year to supporting OSU wrestling next year because of the women's program. If anyone who is familiar how donating and earmarking for certain programs works, feel free to send me a pm.

Do you really need someone to explain exactly how having a bunch of college chicks in/around our wrestling practices and locker rooms could be a distraction? Are you 8?

Maybe. None of us know where the tipping point is on the amount of distraction and waste we can tolerate and still catch PSU. We should do everything we can to minimize distraction and waste and let the chips fall where they may. Your argument could be used to justify all manner of dumb expenditures.

My brother in Christ if you think the occasional presence of women is going to be a major distraction it probably says more about how you perceive women than anything else.

That aside, you can probably say for certain they wouldn’t share locker rooms (WBB doesn’t share with MBB, softball doesn’t share with baseball). I would also reckon they wouldn’t practice at the same time given the limited size of the mat room. The overlap would be minimal.

How do you send a PM on this platform? Haven't figured that one out.

The tipping point gets much higher if we have a women's team for me. My guess is I contribute more than Travis25 does. Actually he asked me to contribute less previously.
