Okay whose seen it? What did you think? I caught a late night show late night. Quite honestly I was slightly disappointed. Good movie. Not Great. Overall I give it a C+. Based on the reviews I expected a little more.

The movie dominated by Tarantino's love / hate relationship with Hollywood. Particularly Hollywood of the 60s and before. That part of the movie is great. Entertaining if possibly not historically accurate. Lots of cameo's by famous people playing famous people. The first two thirds of the movie is set in the spring of 1969 walks you through the time and place through the highs of his three main character Rick Dalton, Cliff Booth and Sharon Tate with a cameo and tons of foreshowing from the Manson family.

Thought DiCaprio is great as Dalton a Burt Reynolds type character. B list TV actor desperately searching for his breakout role. He conveniently live on Cielo Dr. next to the Hollywood it couple Polanski and Tate who he openly admires but has never met.

I didn't buy Pitts character near as much. Booth is a lower level Hollywood stunt man who has become a pariah because everyone things he got away with killing his with (wink wink Wagnor, Blake & O.J.) who is now Dalton's goopher. The problem is Pitts can't even fix a TV antenna with out taking off his shirt and poising Sawyer style. Also can't buy his turning down sex with an teenage hitch hiker he picks up (surprise manson girl) because she might be under age. And of course if Brad gets to take off his shirt he also get's to kick the ass of both a Manson flunky and Bruce Lee. Yeah Brad Pitt can kick Bruce Lee's ass. I want his agent.

The Tate character is presented as such an one dimensional sweet and innocent airhead that even if you have never heard of Sharon Tate or Charles Manson you would know in the first hour of the movie she is the designated dead meat. Nothing that nice can ever be allowed to live in a Hollywood movie.

If you are surprised by the last thirty minute plot twist you haven't seen a Tarantino move since Reservoir Dogs. Of course Pitt and DiCaprio are going to kick the Manson gangs ass just like Hitler or a slave owner. Quite frankly Tarantino has become some formulaic you don't even need to see the last hour of his movies. Hero kick evil ass in the most massive way possible.

I thought it was great. A little too long but I’ve actually liked it a lot more the more I’ve thought about it.

I guess I didn’t have a problem with Pitt’s character especially his unwillingness to have sex with an underage hippie. Seems like an odd nit to pick with the movie. Pitt’s character had been in jail before and had also (probably) gotten away with killing his wife. I completely buy him not being interested in risking jail time for something like that.

It just seemed very out of place with the general vibe of the movie in the era of 1969 Hollywood. Sex, drugs & rock & roll etc. Maybe it was Tarantino's attempt to set Pitts character apart as an outsider but no one in 1969 Hollywood was worrying about the age of their one night stands. More likely it was Tarantino's over compensation to the me too movement while avoiding addressing Polanski's wheels off life before and after the Manson murders.

The other thing that didn't fit with character is I've seen several references to Booth as a Vietnam Vet yet he had been a stuntman in the movies since the late fifties and was probably 40 years old. Are we suppose to believe at age 35 he studently decided to join the marines?

I didn't dislike the movie it was exactly what I had expected. The reviews this week just lead me to believe it might be a little more.

I thought it was fantastic. Easily better than Hateful Eight.

Admittedly, I’m a huge QT fanboy.

I liked this movie about as much as I liked H8 the first time I saw it. However, after watching H8 a couple more times, I appreciated it a lot more, and really love it now.

I suspect that this one will grow on me when I watch it again.

I loved all the subtle Easter eggs from other QT movies.
