I'm not trying to take up for our politicians but if people think a $174K salary is big they are not being realistic. Unless a Congressman is from the DC area they must have two places of residence with one of them in the one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country. I couldn't do it.

The problem is they agree on to much, 35 plus trillion in debt.
Nobody told them they had to be a Politician. Besides that with their insider trading they become richer than we ever will. I don't feel sorry for any of them. The average Anerican makes way less than 174,000 and most cannot afford healthcare thanks to these criminals.
I get what you’re saying, but the reason they took office was HELP the country. Not themselves, they have enriched themselves on the people’s backs. They are also the ones that drove inflation, the whole reason they want the raise.
I give and get raises for doing good job and benefitting the organization. Can they say that?
I don't disagree with anything either of you are saying, however the fact remains the salary they receive is not the windfall some make it out to be and may actually be a deterrent.
IMO we should raise their salary to something that would motivate intelligent, successful, ethical people to run for office while at the same time placing extremely strict restrictions on any other income they have and any job they may take in the future. I also think the way we allow political campaigns to be funded is beyond corrupt.

Besides the stock market. The lobbyists give most of them more walking around money per month than the normal person makes per year. Don’t feel sorry for them man. I had a friend whose dad went to Washington. They did ok but not rich, he came back rich and this was 30 years ago. Someone always wants a favor and it’s been that way for years.
Which is why term limits are necessary.
How many workdays do they work? When my friends dad was in the house. He shared an apartment with others and split the rent. You know what though, I saw him more in person than I did when he just worked, and we were away at college.

I found an article on days of work. They average 174.6 days So that’s a pay rate of 1000 per day (125 per hour) plus bonuses lol
We the people vote for our elected Representatives. With someone like Elon and his ability to communicate with millions all it takes is public pressure. Yes it's not easy but nothing worth doing ever is.
