OKC Open

I think Orangebomber you read between the lines pretty well. Dean Heil is our 133 starter, he is ready for great things this season. Harding will be RSing.

Yes, I think as a team we are stronger with Dolan and Schumacher at 141. Incoming freshman Magaldo (141) had a great OCO finishing 3rd. His only loss was to the same guy that pinned Heil last year (so it was a good loss). Mike needs to put some weight on but he has the built for it, hear he is doing well in the room so lets see how the season comes along. Plus if Heil is at 133, he will be in the title hunt (early to say that but I'm that high on him). 141 is stacked at the top so making top 5 will be tough.

Oberebo, I think you see much the way I do realizing that good.....solid kids should not be hanging with Chance when he is ready for the big show!! Hell Ruth could be someone to compare Chance to.....could have done some damage at the NCAAs his true frosh year. Unless you feel his points are going to give you a legit chance at 35, is it worth the gamble for Chance or for your teams future title runs??

Put Koo out there and Chance and Blees get ready for thie time!! Same for Bo Jordan...... shirt did hime well. Maybe a shirt would have done wonders for Koon as well. The grind of the BIG and the longer season simply did him in.

Seems pretty bold Mike. I'd be willing to make a friendly wager on this. If Heil doesn't finish top 5 then you have to make a small donation to the Hawkeye wrestling club. If he does finish in the top 5 then I will make a small donation to the cause of your choice. Seems like a win win to me

FWIW, I really liked Heil coming out of high school but he did take some lumps as a redshirt. Will be extremely interesting to see what all of these guys do at 133 (Clark, Gulibon..etc)

That seems like a great bet and will take you up on that bet. I also have to add another bet if you are going to Nationals, between Iowa and OSU, at the ending of Friday night whoever is losing in the team race has to buy a drink?

If I'm there that's a deal. I've already booked my hotel for BIG 10's but still not sure if I'll be able to make nationals. I might be traveling for work that weekend which would be a complete bummer

Ober - i was wondering if Marstellar's wrestle-off results were affected by his taking the shot to the nose/face -possible concussion? Did he miss some practice time in between?

Wehweh, There is no indication that the injury to his face caused any of that and he did not miss practices. There is not any question right now that he is struggling and he would be #5 out of 5 wrestlers at this weight. A lot of this MIGHT be due to getting down to weight and this could be the case with several other wrestlers. Even in practice however when he was not pulling the weight seriously he was struggling so that may not be it. At the present time it would be Collica as #1 with Torres or Koo #2, I obviously do not know what John's thinking on the matter is but I would guess he does not want to have to wrestle Collica this year at 157. We will know more after Sunday when OSU has two duals. I would guess and it is only a guess that Koo and/or Torres will wrestle then. The only thing that can legitimately be said at this point is that Marsteller has a long way to go to start this year whether it is conditioning, mental adjustments or something else. He struggled I am told to finish his matches in the two he wrestled Saturday. Sorry, despite Tognetti's jibe at me I have no "insider" information on this.

Thank you for the reply, I am very surprised by his struggling. I guess w/ time it will sort itself out for good or not so good.

I wonder if he was checked for concussion as fatigue is one of the symptoms and can get worse with time if not treated/recovered.

There is just such a difference between a FR and a guy who has been in a college room and in college strength and conditioning program for a year. Guys hit walls, have mental blocks and struggle with the grind that they are experiencing for the first time.

The weight is no doubt a major issue and adjustment for him and 157 may not be the best weight for him but as a competitor it's the best weight to earn a potential spot.

I wouldn't worry about any of our highly regarded FR and especially wouldn't worry about CM.
