How many would be willing to post their personal solutions for our government's shortcomings? Then carry on discussion on in another thread. As new issues are brought up we could edit our posts to include our solutions for the current topic while continuing discussions in other threads.

Maybe a mod could pin our "solutions" thread to the top for ease of access.

We go back and forth a lot on different topics and bills that Congress puts to votes, but I'm interested in what you would propose.

If you were President and could propose Bills for consideration what would it look like?

Example:

Tax reform
Personal income tax would be filed individually only, eliminating government intrusion into marriage (a religious institution)

Everything would be considered income, interest, dividends, profit from personal property sales, everything.

Only deduction is $7,200 per dependent

Income Tax rates:
$0- $30,000 - 0%
$30,001 - $50,000 - 10%
$50,001 - $75,000 - 15%
$75,001 - $150,000 - 20%
$150,001 - $1,000,000 - 25%
$1,000,001 & up - 30%

National Sales Tax: Products would be grouped into tiers by Congress.
Tier I - 2% Ideally these would be raw materials, such as fresh fruit & vegetables, raw meats, eggs, etc
Tier II - 5% Should contain most products
Tier III - 10% Luxury items. None essential items.
Tier IV - 25% Over the top stuff and items that just aren't good for you. I would put cigarettes, alcohol, soft drinks, high fructose corn syrup items. (This is a way to encourage a healthier nation.)

Structured, regimental, speech infringement monitored by board big brother, sounds freakin' great:

Don't like the sales tax generally as it is highly regressive. Like the simple income tax idea. Curious why we should subsidize children but not marriage though...

It doesn't say children. Dependents could be children, non working adults dependent on your income sharing your residence, parents that are dependent on you with no other income.

Sales tax would be to make sure everyone has skin in the game. No freeloaders, but first 2 tiers would encompass most products and be reasonably low and not over burdening.

I'm okay if all income is considered income....interest, dividends, profit from property sales...
Remove all deductions.

Income Tax rates:
$0- $50,000 - 5%
$50,001 - $100,000 - 10%
$100,001 - $250,000 - 15%
$250,001 and up - 20%

I hate regressive rates but a flat tax isn't going to happen even though it is the most fair.

Those rates are dependent on an across the board 10-20% cut on spending and a freeze for 5 years and then a 3% increase per year.

Also must include a work program for welfare recipients except those legitimately incapable of working.
