That team runs their offense like they realize that high % shots win games, and play it like men. They're gonna lay up or dunk on your ass 100% of the trips down the floor unless your defense FORCES them to shoot a 3. Otherwise, they're gonna pressure you relentlessly to keep them out of the lane and go to the rim. Over the course of 40 minutes, this wears down a defense the same way a running game does in football.
This style is night and day from the OSU offensive mindset. Sure, we'd like to have an easy layup, but we're damn happy and content to spend 8-10 seconds each possession fiddle farting out on top 40 feet from the bucket waiting for the other 4 on the floor to get set for what we're gonna run. Then running it with 80% intensity while hoping a defender will sag so one of us shooting 25% from 3 jacks up a shot. Pretty sure we're not gonna get banged by a tough man doing that.
There are analytics that argue for the high volume of 3's style of offense, but I hate it. I've heard Boynton talk about instilling confidence in our shooters to let fly and to feel good about it. Nice sentiment, but some guys shouldn't shoot 3's unless forced to. Hello Shine and McGriff. At least Averette and Mitch seemed to know better.
