Next Years Lineup

I think people are assuming he’ll get a medical redshirt which I believe you can’t apply for until after your senior season.
Next year's lineup as I see it right now would be 25=Spratley jun., 33=Figueroa sen, 41=Jamison jun. 49=Swiderski jun, 57=Lockett fr, 65=Facundo maybe soph, 74=Ryder fr, 84=Thompson soph, 97=Merrill fr, HWT=Doucet sen. Good chances to be All Americans=Spratley, Figueroa, Jamison, Swiderski, Lockett, Facundo, Ryder, Merrill. Thompson and Doucet have fair chances to be All Americans. With good development 10 All Americans is possible. National Champ potential for next year would be 125 Spratley, Lockett and Figueroa more questionable because He has not wrestled 133 before. I think at these weights our best chance for a National Championship would be Dee Lockett. I would like Hughes to get 141 but from what I have seen, not likely. I would like to see some signs of weight lifting with Merrill.

I would like to see more offense from Merrill and BT against elite opponents. If they both get there, they both have NC chances. Even though 184 is a buzz saw.

Dee at 157 has more championship chances than at 165. Ryder at 174 can get to NC too if he is locked in.

CM has offense. If he stays at 197, he'll have to use his IQ and low center of gravity to win matches against the top 10 guys.

He looks so undersized there. I hope there's a path for him to wrestle 184. Either way, I think he's got what it takes to be a multiple time finalist.

BT definitely needs to find a shot. He could out-muscle people in high school and score off opponents' shots, but that part of his game hasn't developed enough for him to make real postseason contributions.

Dee obviously has a high ceiling. Have to wait and see though.

Haven't followed Ryder enough to make a prediction. I've got high hopes!

I agree a lot on those points. Just wary of CM facing someone like Barr or Buchanan. Both different kind of challenges. Barr will likely go slow for first two periods and go go go on third, Buchanan will counter and keep you down. CM has to come through against those. Like BT, CM out muscled a lot of guys in high school.

Who knows how a match with Barr might go, but he lost to Buchanon 2-0 last year, a good showing against a national champ. He's a small 97 so it will be interesting to see how next season goes for him, but I think he'll be a beast.

A shot or four

26-27 much more difficult to predict but I will give my opinion. This will be a year where we have a chance to win, and we will be very young. 25=Spratley sen, 33=Forrest fr., 41=Vega fr., 49=Swiderski sen, 57= Robideau fr, 65=Lockett soph, 74=Ryder soph, 84= Thompson jun, 97=Merrill soph, Hwt=Ross fr. I am thinking that a year in the room Vega wins 141 over Jamison because his upside greater than Jamison. Also if Thompson does not make progress, I think the Cowboys could go Facundo at 174 and then move Ryder to 184. Also, if there was a senior portal HWT that was real good, Taylor could redshirt Ross and he could takeover as a redshirt freshman. I think we have 8 wrestlers with a good chance to All American and 2 who have a fair chance. The fair chances are Thompson because will he wrestle to his potential and Ross because the question is can he put 20 pounds of muscle on his frame in a year and a half. However HWT has really cleared out and will clear out more after next year and so even if he can only gain 10 more pounds and wrestle at 226 his talent will mean All American as a freshman. 10 All Americans could occur this year. Wrestlers with National Champ potential would be Spratley, Forrest, Vega, Swiderski, Lockett, Ryder, and Merrill. Our quantity of wrestlers with National Champ potential increases greatly because of our 25 and 26 recruiting classes.

Buchanan is done right?

HATE, HATE, HATE the thought of guys cutting to make way for BT.

Robideau scores more points at nationals than BT, and I don't think cutting Dee, Facundo and Ryder down a weight will yield the results DT thinks. So it's definitely a bit of philosophy change versus Carl. DT is not afraid to cut guys. So it's going to be interesting to see if that works out.

The why though is pretty clear. BT is super talented, and apparently has been doing a much better job with his lifestyle. Enough that DT believes in him. But I (and most of us on this board), just don't think BT is going to change and start scoring points. I can't honestly recall a time that that has EVER happened. Where a guy in college who was reluctant to attack, suddenly doesn't mind it.

Good luck I guess.

I don’t know that the philosophy is cutting guys to make room in the lineup.

It’s more of a collaborative decision with the facts of being at optimal performance metrics regarding nutrition.

There is a “for the team” aspect in the discussion, and that revolves around most points in March.

I would bet we see a bunch of different lineups this season and have a solid view of what production might look like in Cleveland.

I don't know if they consider it going below their ideal. Ryder's best career performance was at 79kf, Facundo's best at 74kg and Lockett is making 74kg while not looking particularly lean, also 157 next year gives him a much better chance at Natty title if the cut's not too bad

I doubt we ever see Vega starting at 141, hes grown and keeps growing. He's going 65kg this weekend but thats a lot different than holding 141 a whole year. Hes a bad dude but he needs to get a lot stronger for the next level. Idk where he ends up but imo opinion someone really good (or someone's) between 41-49-57 in the 26-27 season will be sitting and it wont be Jamison.

That is part of what is so exciting for me and what we as fans get to enjoy. I bet (maybe hope) we see possible 7-8 guys take the mat for us. Hughes, Vega, Tagen, Swiderski, Teague and Rohbahdoh are almost a certainty to get to watch and we should see Cutter and/or a few others.

That is super fun to me and adds a ton of excitement. I would bet there is a watchful eye on qualifying the weights, but I sure hope we see these guys Wrestle on big stages.
