From the article:Taylor to Oklahoma State bad for Pa., good for wrestling:
I found this online this morning written by a Pennsylvanian in a Pennsylvanian newspaper. Good article with no negatives toward OSU.
To be fair, OSU has done an amazing job at the high school part and "blue shirting". OSU's issue has been the senior level guys sticking around. From the article:
"Many of the nation’s best high school wrestlers are already in Pennsylvania and, if they aren’t, they might be lured here to train with the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club before enrolling at Penn State."
That's why you build the RTC. I can't recall how many studs have forgone their senior year of high school to move to State College to wrestle with the RTC. They have even named it "blue shirting". After success in college, those kids go on to the RTC and the cycle rinses and repeats.
That’s what I had thought. Smith’s coaches clinics and training sessions at high schools. Wasn’t that what Ferrari was returning from when he had the wreck? To be fair, OSU has done an amazing job at the high school part and "blue shirting". Not sure I was mainly pointing to the fact we have gotten a lot of studs to move to Stillwater before their high school career was over to train. That’s what I had thought. Smith’s coaches clinics and training sessions at high schools. Wasn’t that what Ferrari was returning from when he had the wreck?
Magic Man is already lobbying for a new jet.
And then there was silenceJust curious, has anyone heard the latest on Coleman Scott?
Talking about it is lose lose at this point. And then there was silence
For sure. They did a heck of a job. I would say they performed almost miracles. We can credit everything we have to them.I’m hoping the best for Coach Perry & Coach Caldwell.
One of those might still be in playFor sure. They did a heck of a job. I would say they performed almost miracles. We can credit everything we have to them.
Looks like the first time he’s ever worn a cowboy hat!Gilman is ALL IN.
This is bad ass
It’s not, he’s got he’s jeans rolled to avoid the cow shit on the heels.Looks like the first time he’s ever worn a cowboy hat!
OK States biggest issue has been wrestlers getting better. They always have some of the top recruiting classes, but the kids never get any better. That has been the biggest issue before this past season! To be fair, OSU has done an amazing job at the high school part and "blue shirting". OSU's issue has been the senior level guys sticking around.
I don’t think they are unrelated. Guys aren’t improving because we have had almost zero senior level athletes in the room.OK States biggest issue has been wrestlers getting better. I addressed this in a previous message on the board.Do we know at what point Chad Richison got involved with OSU Wrestling to the point he was willing to pony up to get DT? Was it the minute John retired or did he approach Weiberg sometime in the past? Interesting he never ponied up while JS was coach to this extent.
Also I like that DT’s guys are not all from PSU.JS seemed to only hire his guys.I like the well rounded approach with multiple guys from multiple programs.
They’ve been on International Teams and Gilman trained at the NLWC.what is the relationship between DT and Gilman? I was surprised to see that Gilman was immediately talked about as following DT to OSU to coach
Were you Blair in another life? 🤔😉I addressed this in a previous message on the board.
I think he looks like a natural in it. It suits him just fine, although I think he would like to have a six shooter on his hip also.Looks like the first time he’s ever worn a cowboy hat!
Lmao nope not me. I’m not so grumpy 😂Were you Blair in another life? 🤔😉
Just say it again for the people in the back. I don't think people understand just how much John held the program back.I addressed this in a previous message on the board.
Or, hear me out on this, we could just let it go and not bring it up since the program is thankfully now headed in another direction.Just say it again for the people in the back. I don't think people understand just how much John held the program back.
I agree with both of you.Or, hear me out on this, we could just let it go and not bring it up since the program is thankfully now headed in another direction.
Exactly, who is holding the Program back now? Not John freaking Smith, not David Taylor. It's fans and alum that want to point at shit they can't control due to lack of a time machine or lack of funds.Or, hear me out on this, we could just let it go and not bring it up since the program is thankfully now headed in another direction.
True, but wouldn’t work just anywhere.Isn't it amazing what money can buy you in college athletics these days. 365 days ago we were talking about how we can hopefully be a top 10 placer at nationals and today we are talking about a completely new look coaching staff, new facilities and the potential for a national title in the next few years. Although funding was the key factor in all this lets not forget that none of this would even be a thought if JS hadn't retired. As stubborn as a lot of us have thought JS has been with evolving and change he decided it was his time to move on and that was the only way we were ever going to make this jump.
You are correct on what money can buy. All of sports better hope that the Ivy League schools never go all-in on sports. Their alumni base would blow out any other school's donors.Isn't it amazing what money can buy you in college athletics these days. 365 days ago we were talking about how we can hopefully be a top 10 placer at nationals and today we are talking about a completely new look coaching staff, new facilities and the potential for a national title in the next few years.
