OK so I'm really not that old but my 15 year old says these questions make me seem like it.

Yeti cap question #2: what is with the dangling lanyard thing that every 18-25 year old hipster has protruding from his pocket these days?

Are you impressing us with the fact you own car keys? Are we supposed to take note of the inscription on the lanyard and thus associate you with that entity--like OSU or Yeti or Oakley? Is it some signal, like blue shirts for Crips, that you are an adherent to some special society of hipsters?

I know asking you oldsters these questions is fruitless because you are are even older and less hipster than I am, but I'm asking anyway.

It is the young version of the wallet chain maybe? I am only 29 (for another month) and have never subscribed to the lanyard dangle do-hickey...I feel it would get snagged on something.

I was about to say that i think its just a continuation of the wallet chain from years ago. Just adds to the droopy pants look I guess.

I have only used those things in cases where I have no pockets and I wear it around my neck. Usually involved lake activities and I just didn't want to lose my keys. No clue on why the young-ins wear them hanging out of their pants. I am quite sure though it has nothing to do with crips and gang banging as most who I have seen have those would cry like a baby if they did gang stuff.

I've seen them. To me they look like an invitation to steal whatever is attached to the other end. I don't think you'd have to be an Ocean's Eleven Matt Damon level pick pocket to lift one of those without captain baggy pants knowing.
