University of Chicago is a fantastic school, albeit it is in a pretty dangerous part of town. The campus seems to be relatively safe, but not so much as you go out a couple of blocks. The same could be said for Yale. My son applied and was admitted to both schools. I liked Chicago a lot, wanted my son to go there. There was something about Yale I didn’t care for. It has a beautiful campus, but is surrounded on all sides by ghettos.
Just out of curiosity, if your daughter becomes a psychologist will she go back to Pakistan to hang her shingle? Any historian that would add his name to that list would not be a legitimate historian, but an ideological activist. Just in my lifetime there have been at least three presidents that make Trump look positively spectacular. LBJ may have been the most incompetent and corrupt president of the 20th Century, and that’s saying a lot because Richard Nixon oozed corruption and Jimmy Carter was the epitome of incompetence.
Trump is not the horrible president you think he is. In many respects he has been very good. His attempts to reduce regulations tops the list. He pushed through and signed significant tax reductions (although I do wish it had been more). He has slowed, if not halted (temporarily) the rush toward activist judges. You are deceiving yourself that he inherited a great economy. America’s economy was growing slowly and he managed to light a fire under it. It is disingenuous for anyone to blame him for the decline in the economy after C-19 struck, or for his “handling” of the crisis. As anyone on this board will tell you I am not a Trump fan. But he has handled the C-19 crisis about as well as anyone should expect. The Trump haters are trying to have it both ways: if he behaves dictatorially they accuse him of wanting to be a dictator; if he leaves decisions to governors they insist he should be more dictatorial. He is FAR from America's worst president in history. It is nothing but pretense for you or any so-called historian to say he is.
Pakistan is full of women doctors and psychologists.Pakistan is not like saudia or other arab countries.Women have very important positions in Pakistan,infact one of the largest banks in Pakistan has a christian woman as the CEO.
What she would do after she is through with her studies is totally her choice,she can do and live wherever she wants to.
Yes univ of chicago is in a location which is not that safe,but like you said the campus is safe and if she ventures out in the evening it would be with friends.
Then my sisters are there and if she wants to go to their houses during the weekend she could do that.
Pakistan is quite liberal atleast as far as large cities are concerned. My daughter has been modeling for last couple of years.We would be more like india than other muslim countries.Most of the schools are coeducational,and a lot of marriages are by choice than arranged.

Please forgive my unenlightened prejudice. I know next to nothing about the Muslim religion, have always assumed “a Muslim is a Muslim” regardless of where they come from. It has been shameful that I thought that way.
I have always known there are highly educated professional and entrepreneurial people in every country, no matter how “backwater” it may appear to be. But it is too lazily easy for me to put that out of mind and think only in terms as shown in movies. I am thankful you are on this board to remind me of reality!
But that does lead me to one question that perplexes the hell out of me. Namely, why do highly educated professional and entrepreneurial people in places like Pakistan favor “big government” policies? What is the attraction to socialism or fascism? Surely highly educated people can look at the world and see that free societies are the ones that advance, both materially and spiritually. I would think people from countries that have overbearing governments would want them to be smaller, not larger. Is this another misconception on my part? Do you and your circle of friends in Pakistan advocate for liberty and free markets, work toward such a society? I ask because it seems to me from some of you’re comments on this board that you do not.

We’ll just have to disagree on most of this. I lived my “formative” years through the nightmare that was LBJ. Any notion he gave a damn about civil rights is pure hogwash. He helped create the race riots in my youth and had no idea how to overcome them. Richard Nixon didn’t have an incorruptible bone in his body. Jimmy Carter was an absolute embarrassment.
It’s very frustrating for me to be “defending” Donald Trump. I can barely tolerate looking at the man. But he has shown no more incompetence than most presidents. He’s average. Anyone who is able to look objectively at him recognizes that fact. He’s done many things that have driven me over the edge, as a few of our fellow posters will attest. But he’s also made a few right calls. He deserves criticism for his failures (which I have been more than willing to point out), but he also deserves praise when he gets things right. It is unfair to our country for anyone to deny that. From my perspective America started out with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson as presidents, and it’s been downhill ever since.

Your press whether liberal or conservative is very biased as far as international
reporting is concerned. Therefore to get to actually what is happening around the world one has to supplement ones reading one has to look at press from several different countries reporting the same story to get an idea to what is actually happening.
