Ok, I'm operating off of this definition:

1. the preservation of different cultures or cultural identities within a unified society, as a state or nation.

Multiculturalism most certainly can lead to cultural diversity but, as we have seen in Europe, there are no guarantees. It completely depends on the willingness of the people to respect the other cultures. White people weren't good stewards of the multicultural concept when they came to the Americas.
