MAGA and not even in office yet

Carrier says it has a deal to keep 1,000 jobs in the USA.

This is the kind of leadership and vision this country needs. No more focus on bathroom choices.

I think "longer term capital budgeting" contemplates a longer time period than the quarter immediately following an election, but keep going...

Wasn't all I communicated in that post. BAU for you.

Have you seen what immigration enforcement has done to the number of undocumented Democrats coming across the southern border? It's amazing what leadership can do. The lop eared idiot said he had no idea how to stop the massive flow of undocumented Democrats. Isn't it amazing what a brain and a set of balls can do? Manchelle should have been running shit.

So Carrier not honoring their word is Trump's fault? Great logic there Shitlock Holmes.

At least Trump didn't promise shovel ready jobs while wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on the failed green energy companies owned by his buddies and ultimately delivering ZERO shovel ready jobs.

LOL That's such a great response. This thread has aged like a fine wine.

So, Trump is or is not in charge of Carrier?

He claimed credit for a deal he made to kept jobs (or was it brought new jobs) at Carrier.

He isn't in charge of Carrier, but whether or not the deal he made with them turned out to be a good one to make MAGA is on him. Maybe he got taken advantage of by a better deal maker.

Could be just all political bluster at the time. Could be that Carrier felt pressured to go along with him. Could be that Carrier didn't or couldn't make it work on their end.

None of these are a first for someone in an elected office.

Now that the deal is known and jobs are still flying south he wasn't in charge, see how that works? Notice how relevant "who's in charge of Carrier" was in the OP?

This is where I think Sys has a point.

This is a thread started to lauding and cheering him on what a great dealmaker and visionary is. It references this very deal.

MAGA!

New jobs!

Trump always wins!

Trump tweets repeatedly about it.

And then when the facts come in and it wasn't MAGA....it wasn't Trump always wins...it wasn't new jobs, but rather more corporate elite welfare doing very little for the working man Trump says he is doing all this for...

Crickets, excuses, dismissals and giving of passes because it's not his fault the great deal he made turned out to be not great.

Maybe...just maybe, in hindsight, this isn't the kind of vision and leadership we are needing. Maybe he deserves a good bit of criticism for making this deal.

"Not Hillary" only goes so far.

Two sides (or more) to every story. This is one of the reasons I pay no attention to the hysterics of the media. Once again, syskatine proves he's a whore for talking points.

Politifact scores the Carrier deal as a promise kept with the actual facts included.

Except you paid attention to the hysterics of the Fox media when it was originally reported by them. Even started a thread.

Trumpies have declared Politifact fake news and biased and inaccurate. Might get called out for that, but I'll go with it an provide a quote I find interesting from it.

"Robert James, president of United Steelworkers Union 1999, which represents the Carrier workers, said Trump's rhetoric might have misled Carrier workers into thinking that more jobs would be preserved.

The Trump administration said the deal would save more than 1,000 jobs, yet that count includes about 300 administrative and engineering jobs that Carrier never planned to move out of the country, on top of the 800 jobs the deal actually preserved.

"To a degree he has partially kept (his promise)," James said. "You know, it's just that the statement he made when he was here in Indiana was misleading.""

Don't believe the hype.....whoever it's coming from...might be a lesson learned...at least by some. Who knows?

So, the original "deal" is actually intact. The misleading part is the 300 or so jobs that were included in the 1,100 figure that weren't actually planned to be cut. I'll gladly give you that. But the 800 or so other jobs that were part of the deal aren't the jobs being eliminated. Anything else, including Trumpies Politifact fake news, is just word salad. The links to Politifacts sources are cited after both "ratings."

I didn't buy into any hype. I made my own observation based on my knowledge that I had not seen Obama do anything similar in 8 years despite bullshit like "shovel ready jobs" and "1 million new manufacturing jobs," both promises he failed at. I actually looked into Obama's history at the time and only found a reference to intervention by the Obama administration to "save jobs" at a Pennsylvania oil refinery in 2012. The actual reason the Obama administration intervened was because the refinery produced 25% of the East coast gasoline and its closing could have been disastrous on gas prices, not for the sole reason of saving jobs.

I simply made the post at the time because it was refreshing to me to see someone make direct engagement in an attempt to prevent some job outsourcing. I'd be all on board with this convo if we were criticizing the plenty of other bullshit "deals" Trump has claimed like Ford, Charter, and Softbank, but saving 800 jobs at Carrier is still a win considering one of his campaign messages was fighting for American jobs.

For the record, because I know you appreciate details, all of the media outlets reported on the Carrier deal. I do read Fox News (don't watch the TV garbage) as well as quite a few other outlets like CNN, BBC, NY Times, WaPo, WaTimes, WSJ, the AP, and Reuters. I purposely don't pigeonhole myself into one political lean and I'm always fascinated in the spin of all sided.

Read the OP.... The wisdom expressed in this post is new found or were you over taken with joy at the DJT victory and lost your head?

Is intervening in the normal operation of a business a core conservative principal? Lots of criticism when a leftie enacts environmental protection as interference but incentives to Carrier isn't?

And what was the OP? Irrational exhuberance maybe?
Maybe, but 800 jobs is still 800 jobs and Trump taking the initiative to engage is still refreshing to me. I'm not a fan of most of the other shit he's currently doing/not doing of late, but the Carrier deal isn't something I'm going to criticize him on because the jobs that were part of the "deal" aren't being lost. Carrier was specific that they were still moving their fan coil production to Mexico when the deal was announced.

It felt opportunistic and disengenious in the moment...

I understand your perspective. I see it differently, but I respect your view.

I felt the same way about the if you like your plan you can keep your plan and families will save $2,500 per year on premiums bullshit. Except I classified those as repeatedly blatant and intentional lies on Obama's part. That dishonesty has had a much bigger negative impact on people in exponential amounts as compared to the Carrier deal. You might have seen it differently. No biggie.

It's ultimately political rhetoric on both sides. If Congress people and Presidents had kept the majority of their campaign promises over the decades, we'd probably have a country that didn't have a two party political system run by lobotomized infants.
