Just heard an interview with him during the Gonzaga/BYU game.
First off, he said that St Mary's is definitely in due to "how dominant they have been all season".
He reiterated that OSU has work to do because they "played too many cupcakes".
He also said that he does not believe that teams that finish below .500 in conference should not be included, but that OU should be due to their great RPI, BPI, etc.
Let's take a closer look at St Mary's v. OSU
Record 28-5
Best wins:
@ BYU
@ Gonzaga
That's pretty much it. I don't think they have another win over a team that has even an outside shot at making the NCAA tournament.
Compare that to our wins (I shouldn't need to list them here).
Their 5 losses:
@ Washington St
@ Georgia
Gonzaga
@ San Francisco
BYU (neutral site)
Now let's talk about cupcakes that St Mary's has played.
Pepperdine (twice) RPI 317
San Jose State RPI 312
California RPI 216
Sacramento St RPI 309
Santa Clara (twice) RPI 267
Portland RPI 280
*** there may be other low RPI teams. I got tired of trying to find them. They also played some teams that I can't even find on the list. CSUF and St Francis, PA.
Does any of this make sense?
Of course they have had a dominant season. They haven't played more than 4 games against teams with a pulse.
