They played a big part, no doubt. But, Trump probably sealed the win by reducing the gap of Romney/Obama amongst non-whites, at the end of the campaign. The % of the voting cohort that was white declined from 72-70% and Trump only did slightly better than Romney. But, Trump reduced the gap amongst all non-white voters from 63 points to 52 points. This is all based upon exit-polling of course :

Her stance during the debate on partial birth abortion really hurt her.
Trump only received 1% more of the white vote compared to Romney.
Hillary saw an increase of 1% in the female vote compared to Obama.
Trump saw a 5% increase in the male vote compared to Romney.
Here's the difference.
Trump received 7% more of the black vote than Romney
Trump received 8% more of the Hispanic vote than Romney
Trump received 11% more of the Asian vote than Romney.
Historically Democrats need 94%-96% of the black vote to win the election. Hillary received 88%.
I guess Blacks, Asians, & Hispanics are racist and misogynist as well.
