...and specifically, how those of you who consider yourself his critics or even part of the resistance, absolutely do Trump's bidding on a daily basis.
Since it's in the news still, the most perfect example of this is the MS13 "controversy" which is a controversy to nobody but the beholden corporate media/neoliberal/neoconservative/uniparty/establishment complex and it's useful idiots.
Recently the king of never trump conservatives, glenn beck broke hard to trump, bent the knee and donned the MAGA hat. his stated reasons? 1. Trump has fulfilled an incredible number of campaign promises, and instead of noticing this, trump derangement syndrome has led people in the media to purposely misquote him as attacking immigrants AND go out of their way to humanize an extremely violent gang of murderers, rapists, sex slavers and satanists.
This was the straw that broke the back of beck's camel, but it's played out over and over and over again. it's how DJT won in a crowded GOP field, beat the most heavily funded and propped up political heavyweight in US governmental history, and how he overcame Obama administration's election tampering, criminal spying and the resulting made up russian collusion narrative.
It's simple and I'm going to explain it to you, which many of you will disregard and/or call me a cheerleader. fine with me. don't say i didn't tell you how it works though. let me break this down into a few easy to understand stages...
1. Trump, lucky or strategic genius? both? but i think initially most of the things he says are off the cuff and not pre-planned. he may instinctively understand what it might cause and he's perfectly ok with that - but he also really doesn't much care about offending anyone. he's a rich grandpa who is POTUS and has a hot wife and has lived a rockstar lifestyle already. he doesn't watch what he says and sometimes he uses hyperbole or exaggerates the same way a guy you meet at the bar while watching a football game might.
not being a career politician, he talks about complex issues the way a normal guy from Queens might instead of a gutless professional politician who's been coached to never say anything that might offend anyone and to immediately apologize if he does.
2. The Trump Resistance can be counted on to predictably be for what Trump is against and against what trump is for, regardless of the thing. And the playbook says to vilify him for anything he says and does that can be made to look sinister (ie. animals).
3. Most critical element.... Trump never apologizes for these things, and typically doubles down on them. This does two things. it shows the public that he doesn't back down and like him or not - he is exactly what he appears to be, which is rare for a politician. and it triggers the resistance into also doubling down - which inevitably takes them into the land of supporting stupid shit they don't really believe in - (ie. the humanity of MS13 murderers).
he pushes the left further left than the rank and file liberals like @Been Jammin in their heart of hearts really want to be, faster than they intended to get there. he keeps them focused on hating him instead of making policy arguments, and he pulls back the curtain to show regular americans how the sausage is really made via twitter - which goes over and around the media gatekeepers.
I mean even if you hate the guy, it's pretty impressive. but it never ceases to amaze me how so many guys on this board who would be happy to tell you how smart they are if you asked them, wind up getting played by trump along with everyone else. @syskatine has got to be the best example, but he's far from the only one.
And Oh man....
the worst part?
none of it worked. the guy just took every shot the deep state and resistance had and has managed to keep a huge list of promises in a short time while unemployment is at 49 year low, cut taxes, completely erased Zero's legacy and hasn't even started working on mid-terms or re-election yet while his approval rating steadily rises.
what do you guys think is gonna happen when the OIG domino falls and the media can no longer afford to participate in the Zero admin cover up? And when mueller folds tent empty-handed, whats the message once even the dimmest bulb understands russia didn't happen? The NYT article this week was just the first of many such things coming up as the media tries to soften the blow for itself.
